I can't play Thief Gold or Thief II on my computer due to Microsoft DirectX limitations (according to my computer). Can someone please translate what my computer wants? I've reinstalled DirectX twice when I tried installing Thief but apparently that's not enough.
Just for clarification, I have XP. Does that make a difference? The Thief 3 DVD works.

"Go to Start, then Run, then type d:\setup.exe -lgntforce, where d:\ is your CDrom/DVDrom drive. (note: that's -lgntforce, lowercase "L". If you're unsure, copy and paste it from here.) This problem arises because Win2K and WinXP are based on the NT kernel, which had DirectX support which was flaky at best. Thief needs DirectX to run, so, when the installer sees the NT kernel, it assumes that the game isn't going to be able to run and quits the installation. The -lgntforce switch tells the installer to ignore the NT kernel and install anyway."
Straight from the FAQ at the top of the forum. I ad to do that to get my copy of Gold to start working (for some reason, Thief 2 has always ran just fine).

I noticed that FAQ a little while after a posted. Thief starts but the missions will not run. I know that I need a new graphics card for that, so I'm waiting to get one *sighs*.
