Flavors and extracts are an actual conspiracy of sorts even scarier than the Illuminati. The Atlantic Monthly some months ago had an article on the food flavoring industry. A handful of companies, all in New Jersey, control 90 percent of all food flavoring. That little label "natural flavorings" on most all processed food covers a multitude of sins the FDA allows to pass because the ingredients are generally recognized as safe. But ... even non-meat products will use flavoring chemicals from meat distilled as volatile gases.
Mickey D's Chicken McNuggets have some of their chicken flaovor taken from steak chemicals. Vegetarians, which I'm not, are being screwed daily, as well as people who have to avoid certain food products for religious reasons. The chemicals in natural flavorings are taken from every conceivable source - food and non-food - and don't have to be labled. Whatever FEMA stands for, it ain't good.
