I recently wanted to re-install my thief 2 on my computer, but my orange game CD has a small crack and wont copy one of the files. it seems to be just the one file it cant handle and then it shuts down installation after 98% is done. The file I can't get is cfg0003.bnd. When it tries to copy it in Setup, it gives me an error saying like, '"Can't copy the following file..... Retry/Cancel..." If I click retry it just gives me the error about 30 secs later. If I click cancel, it exits setup and doesn't install the game. Is there any way to make the program install without this file or is it really necessary? If its necessary, how do I get that file? Or do I have to go out and buy a new game?   Someone help, Im desperate to play T2X!!!! THANKS!

I'm pretty sure that's a keybind file, therefore, an esentially useless one. Should be the Unreal binds.

if it is a useless file, then maybe you can put a blank file in the Thief folder and name it cfg0003.bnd then install into that folder.

I tried manually copying it and creating a fake cfg0003.bnd--still the installation instists on trying to copy it and then can't do it. Any other recommendations? :tsktsk:  Thanks for the help though!

rip an image (.iso) of the disc and install it from a virtual drive. I have done it before w/misbehaving/scratched game discs .

Or you can just copy the CD contents to your hard drive and install the game from there, that's what I usually did.

Yeah, hopefully the install doesn't give up when it has to skip the file, only when it encounters an error copying the file. So if the file is not there, it will just skip, instead of panicing and aborting.
Failing that, you should be able to get the game installed "manually" by extracting the files yourself and possibly making any nessecary registry changes. Hopefuly you dont need to make any registry changes.
Have you tried just running the game from the folder even though it didn't finish the install? Quitting at 98% and only missing the bindings file sounds like a good chance that enough of the files are there for the game to run properly.

Success!! I was able to manually copy all the files minus the bad one(s) and then use a no-cd patch. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED!!:cheeky: :thumb: :) :D
