The thief that's attacking the Lady gets teleported back to the same spot he entered the level when you go back out on the balcony and reopen the door there. Also, the guard on the 6th level gets teleported back to the lift wherever it is when you drop him. Some strange bugs, those.
Not so strange from a technical point of view. He/she just forgot to insert a few destroy traps or the like.

Other bugs:
I never saw any thief in the basement, just Garrett saying, "What the–?!"
Happened to me too when I played it the first time. You're supposed to be on the elevator when you open the door, otherwise you won't see him.

Yeah, this was a nicely done FM. Kudos. Very well-balanced play and the search for stuff never had time to get boring. I saw the guy in the basement when I opened the door, btw. I like little enigmas like that in games.
That said, I hate anything modern in Thief. Thief 2 seems to lend itself to what I'd call anachronistic touches. Gimme the sputtering lights and cobblestone streets of the original Thief. Remember that first walk up the street in Bafford's when the guard says hello? That's Thief for me.
Now .... what the heck was the swiming pool and diving board all about? I didn't see them mentioned in this thread and I know I'm not good enough to have been the only one to have found that area.
Did this somewhat jarring but technically wow! sidetrip have meaning that I may have missed in the context of the story?
Nightwalker on 27/5/2003 at 12:20
You found the Easter Egg, that's all.
Yandros on 27/5/2003 at 13:06
And as far as I'm concerned, easter eggs can be completely absurd. :) It had nothing whatsoever to do with the story, just a fun little diversion.
By the way, just to avoid any confusion, since this thread was initially created for the original release, radioman is talking about v2.0 which is now available (see my sig).

The easter egg was fun. :) But I discovered it completely by mistake.javascript:smilie(':cheeky:')

I've been out of the game (literally) for a while but I'm picking up where I left off: with the last few Contest 4 missions. I think I may be rusty because I can't find the above mentioned area. I've been all over the inn keeper's quarters and read his diary but can't figure out how to open the locked door opposite the elevator. Any hints?
Thanks!
Nightwalker on 16/6/2003 at 12:40
Are you playing version 2 or the original contest mission? In version 2 you need to
check out the Innkeepers bedroom VERY carefully.
It's pretty much just out in the open in the original version, so I doubt that's the one you're having problems with. Welcome back, by the way! I wondered where you'd disappeared to. :)
Norman Druart on 16/6/2003 at 15:57
Thanks Nightwalker! It is indeed v2 that I'm playing and I'll recheck that area you mentioned. I figured that it was something obvious given that no one else seemed to have a serious problem finding it. I did locate the easter egg though while searching for the basement.
I went on a Thief hiatus in February because RL got busy and new FM inventory was low but I've now downloaded a bunch of new ones including the first CoSaS mission!
Nightwalker on 16/6/2003 at 17:31
You've got lots to look forward to, then! Make sure you don't miss Rowena's Curse and Lord Alan's Fortress. They're both show stoppers! :) GatI is also fantastic and I can't wait to see the next mission in the series.
Yeah every time I dropped the thief off the balcony and closed the door he was back again.
Also...
I didn't understand the swinging balcony door on the highest floor. I pushed a button on the rail and it swung open.
