Help with quotes... - by all

My blasted teachers never give their sources, as if we're supposed to know exactly when a given author said or wrote this or that. :tsktsk:
This said, can anyone here please help me find where Goethe is concerned about "conquering what one has received" (my paraphrase, but that's just about what the prof said)? So far I wasn't able to find a satisfactory result with google or wikiquotes... :p Thanks :)

The quote is from a collection of texts that old Goethe wrote with his friend Friedrich Schiller, called "Xenien und Votivtafeln". ((

If your prof actually said "receive" she's misunderstanding, the meaning of "erhalten" in this context is "conserve".

Im looking for this goethe quote. The quote is About A husband and wife are at an Airport when they see a man who looks like her brother who went missing with her son over a year ago. The wife discovers where the man is going so she and her husband go to the town. When they get there they go to a restaurant where the Wife sees her son. later on they get captured they have there memories replace but they begin to feel something is not right so they go investigating and discover who they really are and set to make it right by having there memories put back which was stored in a Computer.
I thought goethe was the author of that quote So I looked him up and could not find the quote. Can someone help

Ok I have a new request.
This time it concerns the work of French naturalist Georges-Louis Lecrec Buffon. Our prof told us that in his 'Histoire Naturelle' he claims that: "if you take a black African and put him in Copenhagen, he becomes white within two generations." Does anyone know approximately where this passage can be found? Thanks :D
