alright....I've been playing this game for about two or three weeks now, things are going great, completing quests, helping people out.....I'm even an Imperial guard, and all-of-a-sudden, guards are chasing after me when i enter certain towns or garrisons and kill me! what tha crap?!? i look back at what i might have done to deserve this, I took a sword from a crate....nobody reported my crime, nothing. so I drop the sword, go to Ald-Ruhn, everything's fine. i then go Balmora, everythings fine. then capture a skeleton from a tomb and on my way back to balmora, guards in Seyda Neen start attacking me. would it have anything to do with taking the skull from the tomb? and why isn't there a bounty on me if thats the problem? and is it true that guards know when you take something even if they don't report it?
Thanks to anyone who sits through this frustration and/or can help me.

Ok, there is an error where gaurds attack you without a bounty or anything and only guards of that type will attack you. It normally comes from attacking a guard while they are running after you. So you much be werry that if you choose to resist arrest you must wait for them to attack first. It can be set of by other things though, not sure exactly what here. This is the third time I have answered this problem in this forum alone and yet I can't remember the exact solution (try a search, though everything got archieved...)
Try using the console (if on PC, by pressing the ` key in game, xbox=no console) and typing
"imperial_guard"->stopcombat player
If that doesn't work do.
"Imperial_guard"->setfight 0
"imperial_guard"->stopcombat player
PS. I am not sure if imperial_gaurd is the right ID, if you know how you can check or someone else may know. I don't have morrowind on PC anymore so I can't be expected to remember this stuff.

Thanks for the info, Pisces. the weird thing is, is that i've never had the guards try and arrest me or even approach me other than trying to kill me. I see what you are talking about because certain guards won't attack me, but others will. I have the Xbox version, is there any way to fix it on the console?

Well at some point of time you may have accidentally hit a guard while fighting an enemy and then gone off without noticing or something of the such. On the xbox there is no console so the solution is very differcult (much harder then killing all the guards whenever you go into town)...You can buy millions of calm humanoid scrolls(or the spell) and calm all the guards which attack you, though I am pretty sure that if a new guard sees you then he will come up and attack you, setting off all the old guards to attack you as well which makes it differcult. Then I can't remember if you need to wait inside the town or go to another cell and rest to keep the calm humanoid in effect, or possibly both works. Umm...perhaps one of them shiny angels on this forum can remind me of the exploit to make AI changing spells permant?

What armor are you wearing? If it is ordinator then they will.
Pisces on 20/12/2004 at 20:48
Only ordinators attack you for wearing ordinator armour. And there are no ordinators in Seyda neen...

The only armor I have on is Dwemer armor. I even tried taking the Dwemer armor off and going into town, and they still attacked me at first sight. I have dropped everything that I own just in case I stole something on accident and they still attacked.

Don't worry, guards (generally) run slow. Just keep moving, heh. You'll be able to fight 'em off with one arm tied behind your back soon.

I had this happen once with a guard at Fort Moonmoth next to Balmora.
I was doing the quest for the "Emperor's special gift", the Ring of Surroundings, that you get from the guard captain at the fort. You have to assassinate some Cammona Tong guys in a bar in Balmora; and unless you're good with taunting people into attacking you it's very difficult to not get a large bounty. The guard captain will remove the bounty when you report back to him, but you've got to get past some imperial guards at the fort. I managed to evade them, duck inside the fort and get the bounty removed;
but ever after there was always this one guard out of all the guards there who would attack me on sight. Oh well, he kept respawning, and I kept running into him... I made a small fortune selling his armor and stuff right there at the fort. :p

Next time you attack him, check if he is a guard captain or Archer, cause that would explain why the others don't.
