So I'm looking to use a gamepad with Thief 1 and 2, as I would like to be able to take it on the road via my lappy. (Playing via that wretched touchpad is
not an option.)
I can do some of the bindings in thief2 already, but it doesn't recognize the second (right) stick on my Saitek P880:

http://www.bdog.fi/netstore/tuotekuvat/01627.jpgI've looked for a good keybinder and don't know how the hell to use that joy2key program, so I'm wondering if anyone here knows what I would use to do this.
(calmly awaiting ZylonBane to pop in here in 5..4..3..)

the game usually has to specifically support the second stick/both sticks and d-pad at once, as well as have it recognize analog inputs from the sticks. did you get any software w/the pad?

Bloody hell, you're right. I just got the programming software from the saitek site.
Thanks :)

If the Saitek apps won't let you do what you want to, give Pinnacle a try. It allows you to map your gamepad buttons and axes to keyboard/mouse combinations and get some pretty advanced setups. There's a 30-day nagfree trial which should see you through your trip; I liked it enough to buy it.
What you could do with it is map the right thumbstick to mouselook and the left thumbstick to move, and (if you have them) triggers for fire. The d-pad could be used for scrolling weapons and inventory, and the buttons for use and quick-items.

I actually, when I first bougt Thief way back in 1999, used a logitech 10 button game pad to play. I dont remember it being to hard to set it up.
I am sure glad I learned to use the keyboard to play thief.
Could you possibly use an optical mouse to play? I mainly play thief I & II on my laptop using an optical mouse and the armrest of my sofa as a mouse pad:cheeky:

This is called "Joystick 2 Mouse", you can just search for that text, it's available for download everywhere.
Maybe it's the program you were talking about.
But I would persevere with it, its just perfect in every way, except maybe for userfriendlyness - but once you understand where you are suppsed to be specifying keys etc. its fine. I figured it out after a few minutes.
Stay on the "Profiles" tab, I think that's where you want to be to configure everything.
