Hey, they sound just like ... - by Scots Taffer

Everyone has a favourite band (or a few, or dozens if you're some commitment phobe musical slut) and through loving that band's sound you've heard many bands that have been compared to them or share very similar musical qualities in one way or another.
I'm sure it comes to no surprise to many of you that Interpol is my favourite band and through having heard of other bands described as sounding like them I've found bands that I love (The National) and not so much (Editors). Tonight I'm listening to an album from a band that's been described as very "Interpol" called (
http://www.theaureview.com/albums/cameras-in-your-room-2011-lp) Cameras (random review from internet corroborates this by mentioning my faves in the 2nd paragraph) and it's good - even better, it's home grown!
So, to the point of the thread, who's your favourite band and who have you come to love/like from hearing that "hey, they sound just like your favourite band"...

I tend not to go for soundalikes unless they have a band member that was one of the reasons I liked the original. I guess this is why I like some Perfect Circle.
The only time I'd do this is if I was listening to some electronic/ambient stuff like Carbon Based Lifeforms and discovered Solar Fields as a "soundalike".
Having said all this; I rather enjoyed the little bit of Camera I just heard. It is a bit like Interpol I suppose.

Well, to throw in another example(s), I heard Zero 7 and Boards of Canada because I loved Air.

Time to pull this chestnut out of the bag.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v282/cmosley/80b.jpgI don't know that I think in terms of a "favorite band", maybe a favorite band for a genre.
But let's see, I went through a NIN period, and that introduced me to a lot of industrial or electronic bands because I wanted to know what else was out there in the same neighborhood ... Aphex Twin, Orbital, Air, Autechre, Boards of Canada, Boom Boom Satellites... I don't know if you could say I discovered them
because they sounded like NIN, maybe just Aphex Twin and some BBS out of that list, but catching on to NIN & wanting to know what else was out there was part of it.
