Apparently, you can save him by offing all the MIBs in the hotel, and then being captured. Or something.

As you can see, you are not dead!

Welcome to our humble abode -- *OT: PLEASE tell me your name is referring to Fuel*.
If you care for the cheating way -- which shouldn't be that bad cause you've already beaten it -- try just hiding in one of the closets. Paul is invincable, he only dies if you go out the window.
------------------
"Take death for example. A great deal of our effort goes into avoiding it -- we make extrodinary efforts to delay it and often consider it's intrusion a tragic event. Yet we find it hard to live without it. Death gives meaning to our lives. It gives importance and value to time. Time would become meaningless if there were too much of it. If death were indefinetly put off, the human physche would end up like, well, the Gambler in the Twilight Zone episode."

If you kill the MiBs and exit the hotel through the front door I think Paul survives. You may not actually have to kill the MiBs though, exiting through the front door may be enough.

Also, if you let yourself "die" (be captured) in the hotel Paul survives.

I tried to save Paul yesterday and I succeeded. When I was placing LAMs over walls (where MIBs should've enter the room), after the explosion Paul ran like hell to the hall full of soliders and started shooting them. They killed me and i didn't knew if he was alive, but I thought he wasn't.
I replayed it and blocked the room entry with chairs in Paul's room so he'd unable to go out (I don't think he is smart enough to jump over chairs =) And, when MIB appeared, I jumped to him and have let him to kill me. Paul was alive and I've seen him two times later. Nice surprise was to see him in Hongkong. I enjoyed it a lot...

Saving Paul was my favorite part of DX

Then I went out and LAMed the place up real good, gas lams on the bottom floor and explosive lams outside the room.
I think reloaded all my guns and started the final conversation with Paul, halfway through the conversation the game spawns the enemies outside (You hear the gas LAMS go off).
After the text I just walked out into the hallway finished off the guards.
Once done I removed all the objects in front of Paul and he walked to the exit

ahhh... the beauty of such a great game.
I started a new game and saved Paul and it was one of the most fun parts of the game, I agree!!!!!!!
But you know what? I wish there was some way of KNOWING you COULD save or NOT save Paul. When Paul said "Get out through the window NOW" I assumed you were SUPPOSE to do that and I DID do that. If there was some kind of hint that he would die if i left would have been great. I mean, how was i suppose to know he would die if i did what he told me to do? and also, WHY would he NOT die if I died in the 'Ton and he would die if I left through the window?
just something i've been wondering.
