Actually, I've been registered for a while and may have posted before, but I'm coming back to the series in ernest only now.
It was back in 2002 when I moved to my new home that I first played Thief II. My brother somehow had a copy he never played, probably given to him by a friend who got it as a bonus when ordering parts for his PC. It. Was. Awesome, of course. Instant classic for me, went straight to my top 10, which says alot coming from me, I'm a harsh grader who's played tons of games on many systems from many genres. I loved it so much for:
1) A very pure stealth experience
2) Focused and highly polished gameplay
3) Got to *really* be a thief
4) Steampunk world was new, unique and interesting
I even replayed it twice (1 Expert Ghosting, 1 "swashbuckler"), which is unusual for me, because of time restraints. It was that good.
Well, I instantly bought Thief 3 when it came out, but my comp (still) can't run it, so it's sitting on a shelf. I found Thief Gold around 2005 and started it. Around that time I also downloaded and installed Thief 2X because the idea intriuged me. I didn't like 1 as much as 2, because of the level design and monster combat. In fact I kept stopping and only finished just yesterday. Not as good as 2 imo, but I actually ended up loving it despite of and because of it's uniqueness. The monster levels were fun in their own way, I see now.
NOW, I'm going to replay 2 (again), then start Shadows of the Metal Age. I'm sure I'll LOVE T2X. After that I'll finally start playing other fan missions. So, nice to meet you, I'm sure I'll be here often. Taff on!

Welcome, notice the sign? Empty your pockets on the table, all blades, weapons, goblets, and purple purses, don't forget the fruit. Then comes the initiation ceremony.

I guess that means you were never into rpgs like Wizardry and Might Magic, Bard's Tale, Dragon Wars or any of the others? Oh well, too late now. Quite a few classic rpgs out there.

Damn, been forever since I last played old-schkool M&M! Still got Secret of the Inner Sanctum on 5.25" disks somewhere 'round here :D

A hearty welcome to you, Cliftor! (And watch out for our incorrigible BrokenArts! ;) ) Pull up a chair, put your feet up by the hearth, take a long draught from your mug of ale and listen while we regale you with stories of our taffing exploits. New taffers are always welcome!
P.S. Mind your purse and any other valuables you may have arrived with. :ebil: :cheeky:

Nope, haven't played them. I guess I should have said I meant that steampunk was new for *me* at that time.
Funny you would mention those, though, I HAVE recently been looking for Wizardry 8, which I heard was very good. No, I didn't really start gaming until Civ II came out and our family got our first PC. Before that I had a Gameboy, but with the computer I got into PC games and emulation. Eventually my bro broke our mothers ban on video game consoles and bought a N64. It all just snowballed after that, now I'm a gamer :)
When it comes to older games, I've played many of the greats, but there's still much I haven't. I have HEARD of those games, just haven't played them.
