Highrises still suprisingly flammable. - by zombe

I am a bit surprised to say the least ... (

I guess the fire suppression kinda failed because the fire crawled up from the outside (Probably: excellent oxygen feed + luxury hotel = flashpoint ladder. Once you get it going ...) ... or something. I mean ... what the hell?
I heard, from unreliable source, that no-one got trapped inside and currently the fire seems to be under control - so, there is that at least.

Just as long as no-one left any jet fuel lying around inside.

Damn that sucks, but seems like there might have been enough buildup time to evacuate everyone? If so, I guess good work on the builders designing it to hold out long enough for people to get out.
EDIT: (

Quote:
Officials say the fire has been brought under control and 16 people suffered mostly minor injures.
Yay!
Quote:
Irish singer Anita Williams, who was performing at the hotel when the fire began, told the BBC that people left in a "stampede".
"We left everything. There was debris falling down. It [the fire] just shot up through the entire hotel.
"Everybody was screaming, everybody was running... I thought: 'This is a film'."
Uh oh. Unfortunate edge-case scenario, or inherent design flow?
Do a lot of hirises get on fire like that tho? I honestly cant think of hearing a single bad case since 9/11...

Came in here expecting a The Towering Inferno remake announcement. This is even worse.

I remember one in 1933 that eventually cost the lives of 50 million.
