Hi...I got Deus EX with my sound card, and was wondering if its a good game... - by Thiefplayer

Before I load it and start playing it (I don't have NEARLY as much time as I'd like, and I've got Thief 2 to finish, Thief The Dark Project coming via mail, and a couple more games I have to get around to playing, so I don't want to waste time trying out a game only to find out it's not very good :)) I wanted to ask a couple of questions. First, I was wondering if this game is worth playing...so, I figured I'd ask the people who would really know... :)
Secondly, I was wondering if you could tell me why it's rated M...is it like Thief, because of violence and being a little mystical, or is it because of something else? (A little mystical stuff, science fiction and violence (as long as it's animated :)) is ok, but anything with *other* stuff in it isn't :))
I know this probably sounds dumb, but the game didn't come with a booklet or anything (it was just in with the sound card, along with a couple of other games), and I don't know what to expect, so my parents told me to find out before I loaded it (which is a good idea, because, like I said, I'm too busy for an addictive, dumb game... :))
Thanks much,
The Not So Great Taffer

Then why waist anymore of YOUR, and OUR time by posting this thread. Seriously, think about it...what kind of an answer do you think you're going to get posting this in here? Thank you, you've just answered your own question. Go play the game already.
As for the M rating, it's due to the violence thing. There is no nudity.

I see you're playing Thief II (and like it, I presume). So I'm sure you're sad as well about the fact that Looking Glass Studios RIP don't exist anymore becaus they hadn't got any more money
Let me ask you one simple question.
Why, in your opinion, did they go bankrott? Why, in your opinion, didn't they make enough profit to survive?

Thief The Dark Project coming via mail
That's it!Exactely! You answered my question before I even had time to ask it!
Looking Glas ain't here any more because of guys like YOU! Guys that want to play the games, but have no respect for the work that went into it! Of course, if you copy a game like Tomb Raider XXIV (or similar), no one will complain. Because the game isn't worth to be bought. But
Thief: The Dark Project!Resignation, that's all what'S left for me and other honest buyers that know what work went into the good games and respect it.

WHAT??? I am buying a legal, complete game through the mail...what's wrong with that?? Eidos sells it, Thief Gold, and Thief II in their online store, and so do lots of other online game stores. Does it make a difference if I go to a local store, or buy it from an online store?? I don't think so!!
As to why I'm asking you guys, I figured you'd be able to answer my question as to why it's rated M, and if it's worth playing (as most of you have played through the whole game!).
I don't mean to be rude, but the people on the Thief board are ALOT nicer than you people (at least some of you people)!!

SantaClaws,
Please tell us what your shoe leather tastes like...
Don't tell me it tastes like chicken. I won't believe it. :p
This made my day. Don't ask me why, but I find little miscommunications extremely funny, as long as they're not between governments.
Perfectly written flame takes down a completely innocent bystander. News at 11.
BTW, Thiefplayer, no one on the Deus Ex forums is just hanging around to warn people not to play this game. You've probably guessed this already.

The M rating could be because you actually see ladies panties if you look up from beneath them. ;)
And PLAY THE GAME DAMMIT!!! It is addictive, but surely not dumb. :) SLIGHTY like a cross between Thief and System Shock 2. (Ye haven't played shock either, have ye?)
davpod on 13/7/2001 at 19:26
[friendly but firm]Yes, it is good. Play it. And then go and play Shock 2 as well. Hope that helps. :)[/friendly but firm]

personally it is better than ss2..and different, id say equal to the thief series. Thief is refined, deus ex is expansive. Both are brilliant.

Sorry Thiefplayer, people have been kinda rude to newbies lately around here. I'm not sure why but who gets targeted seems to be rather random.
And people, <strike>he</strike> she prolly came here 'cuz we're the best ones to consult on whether the game would be fun to play for someone who likes Thief. Not everyone who liked Thief liked DX and vice-versa. We're in the best position to point out the pros and cons of the game and whether it sounds like something interesting to play. Of course we're not going to say "don't play it, it sucks" but the details we CAN point out may help <strike>HIM</strike> HER decide whether <strike>he</strike> she wants to play it. Jeez
IMO DX is worth playing because the gameplay is unlike just about anything out there. You have a pretty decent character development system, along the lines of System Shock 2. If you haven't played that think of RPG lite. You don't have complete control over what sort of character you play, but you can develop certain strengths and playing styles dependent on how you approach the game. The storyline is compelling and keeps one interested throughout the game. It uses the unreal engine so it looks good, although it may force a performance hit on your computer depending on what you have. If you're not looking for a time waster then don't touch it. But if you want something that will suck you in then go for it <IMG SRC="thumb.gif" border="0">
Secondly, download <a href="http://www.deusex.com/patch.htm" target="_new">the patch</a>.

Uh, the patch probably won't work with the version distributed with sound cards.
