It pains me to say this, but, better pseudo-intellectual than anti-intellectual.
Ever hung out with pseudo-intellectual people?

Well, he posts on TTLG...
I'd also add Space Rangers 2 to the list, because it will completely change the game type if that will better support whatever you're taksed with doing at the moment. Top-down space combat? RTS? TPS? Text adventure? Shmup? All present!

Wait, Far Cry 2 is a benchmark in gaming narrative? I have it but haven't played it beyond the first mission. Bodes well if what you say is true.
The only thing that Far Cry 2 is a benchmark for is missed opportunities.
Aerothorn lists Mass Effect. The one thing I can say about is that it repopularised grey area moral choices in AAA Western RPGs, something that had largely been missing since perhaps the Black Isle or Troika days. Most RPGs since KotOR were all about black and white morality. Eg in Fallout 3, you were either a total saint or the most evil bastard ever to walk the face of the Earth, with very few exceptions (like the Oasis quest, "The Family"/Arefu quest, The Pitt). Mass Effect's mainstream success has made more gamers than ever critical of these sorts of things.
I suppose you could mention Dragon Age too, it takes what aforementioned established even further by removing the standard morality stats bar altogether.

Wikipedia seems to vaguely disagree with me on this but having studied game design at uni I'm sure I read Donkey Kong was the first game with cutscenes and the first with anything resembling a narrative.

Mass Effect's grey areas weren't all that grey most of the time. There was still a pretty solid dividing line between goodly hero type and hostile jerk. KoTOR 2 actually dealt with grey shades of morality a lot better.

Another World does have dialogue.
