I'm not sure what if anything I should put spoiler tags on below, but I'm talking about things that happen in the game and don't want to give anything away for the few people who haven't finished TDS yet.
Well, I had two little TDS experiences that make me question just how stable the people of the city are: :sly:
After looting the armory, (just after eavesdropping on the imposter-Garrett and his client), I quicksave before heading back downstairs. I hear some of "Aha! Found you!" type of talk coming from the street below. Then sounds of carnage. I go into a crouch and creep downstairs, hoping I can avoid any of this unwanted attention.
Of course, that takes a while. And I hear some more fighting and dying going on in the meantime. Next thing I know, a citizen (pirate? thief? I don't know, just that he wasn't in uniform) brandishing a sword is on alert in the bottom of the shop.
"Who is this guy?", I wonder to myself. "Is he the fake Garrett? Some private guard hired by the armorer? Is he after me or someone else? If he's the wannabe, this could be his concept of 'stealth.' If he's a guard, he might have just killed the imposter, trying to break in. He might be after me either way. The guard could be trying to stop my burglary. The fake Garrett could be trying to knock me off before I expose him. Or he might not even know who I am but he doesn't want me making off with his loot!"
He's doing the "I'll find you..." type of lines and actively searching. I start backing out, but he catches up with my uber-slow creeping and I go into a running crouch. "AHA!" he cries and comes after me. I hide behind the privacy screen in the upstairs bedroom and he eventually goes back down to actively patrolling the lower floor, still in high-alert.
So I wait. And wait. And wait. He never gives up. Eventually I try sneaking past him. He sees me and immediately gives chase, simultaneously cutting me off from the door. So I repeat the privacy screen trick. I try jumping off the balcony onto the street below, and he starts chasing me from inside. I go running down the street. Of course, guards see me and give chase, and the next thing I know I have a mob running after me. I get cornered, and quickload. Same thing, with a PO'ed guy in street clothes searching the bottom floor on high alert.
I reload a game from earlier, and carry out the mission without any bloodshed or obsessively-searching characters. :cheeky:
Must have just been some really weird glitch. I don't know how the AI started fighting with one another. I suppose some people would be complaining right now, but I thought it was rather funny!
The other incident was when I was on my mission to stop time. I think I was in Stonemarket Proper at the time, but not sure. (Yeah, I know that's not where the entrance is, but I was looking at the map!) There were two Builders patrolling together, who I first saw from behind, and then ran onto headlong in a somewhat narrow passage. The first one turned the corner before me and passed right on by, saying: "Builder be with you, Garrett."
Then the second one turned the corner, gave one of the Builder I-found-you-now lines, took his hammer off his back and started swinging. Of course, the second he started his badguy-spotted routine, the first one was turning around and arming himself, too. Then they both try to give me the beatdown, from the front and behind! :wot:
P.S., this is my first time through TDS and I'm still
dodging assassins
, so I would appreciate it if you don't try to relate back to me with stuff that happens later in the game!

Yeah, I've seen town inhabitants beating the crap out of eachother several times actually. Guards, builders and pagans sometimes go berserk and start slaying everything that moves.
It's hilarious when civilians spots the carnage, runs to get the guards and get chopped down by the guard himself.

I actually enjoy those "gang wars", whenever they happen.
Especially when the city watch slaughters the "pirates"/ rogues that also patrol the street armed.
...or when a city watchman draws his sword , thereby accidentally hitting a Hammerite, who then proceeds to kill the attacker
...or when someone kills another person and then runs away saying something like: " I know it was you , Garrett" Talk about delusions...

Ive sat in stonemarket, as close to sky height as you can get by using the climbing gloves above the street next to where you cross into old quarter, and chucked down all my oil flasks, and just watch the carnage erupt. Someone slips, inevitably a pagan shaman lady, and being a typical woman(Garrett is sexist, not me), she blames everyone but herself, and begins the slaughter of local guards, civilians, and then hammers lastly! For good measure, pop an arrow into the occassional passing guard and drop the odd flashbomb to incite the violence. Don't bother with noise makers, shoot a mine! In 10 seconds it'll be like Woodstock.
Classic line is the female civilian standing in the middle of the street, screaming "I've gotta find somewhere to hide!!!"
For the record...... she didn't find it ;)

Those oil flasks are great aren't they? I love throwing them on stairs and watching people fall down the stairs.

:D God i love the oil flasks!! Setting up like 15 of em (i had the 999 everythin with all at $1 cost thinger on) in the docks and watch random people slip off into water, i got like 27 people doing that!! it wat the funniest thing ever!!:ebil: and also watching the hammers randomly going insane and killing anything in thier path.:laff:
I was waltzing around stonemarket one fine night, cashing in some loot and buying some more random jargon, only to walk in front of a hammer. hes like "Whazzup?" and im like "Nuttin, homes." so i walk off, and he just fuckin LOSES IT and goes after a guard!! he beats him down, then runs off and kills random civilians. somwhere in the midst of all this carnage, his buddy gets whacked in the head with an arrow and goes on a killing spree as well. :laff: They just went on and on killing, they never died! So i just walked on quietly, VERY quietly, and witnessed the stack of bodies they left behind, only to find a pagan chick standing in the street in the usual "WTF are you?" stance, and then she gets whacked in the back of the head by a hammer and gets beaten down mercilessly.
i think the hammerites have a few mental issues, lol. :sly: them and the guards, the pagans dont seem to go on any killing sprees... :grr:

Just in front of St Edgar's in Stonemarket is a great spot. Especially on the final day when Gamall is hanging out around the corner. If you just make a hell of a lot of noise (making sure you are allied with at least the hammerites is a good idea) and let them swarm in. I've counted three hammers, two pirate girls, two shaman women, and four guards, all of whom respawn incredibly close to this spot. And like I said, just when things get too heated, just lure gamall into the fray, or bring the fight to her, and the shit really hits the fan.
