Ok I know this has probly been done before but I couldnt find anything terribly relevant, except for some "halloween game" threads.
Not being much of a horror fan, I really enjoyed the recent release of Serena on steam, short but effective, subtle horror. Looking for more of the same or similar games, stuff which messes with your mind a bit, rather than just pure jump scares. I obviously have heard of the Silent Hill series, but have never played them (dont own a ps), so keeping in mind my platforms are 360 and PC (also wii but not really any horror titles is there), any suggestions on titles I should check out.
Doesnt have to be pure horror so games like System Shock2 and Thief are also possibilities.

Actually Silent Hill 2 is available on PC. It's good, defenitely messes with your mind. Amnesia and it's sequel are my fav horror games, play those! And you have GOT TO PLAY Deadly Premonition. It's ridiculous, but that ridiculousness masks some really terrifying stuff.

Some of my faves:
Condemned 1 & 2
Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth
Penumbra series
Fatal Frame series
Resident Evil 4

Slender The 8 Pages

henke are you talking about the PC remake of Deadly Premonition? cos apparently that sucked compared to the original ps2 version. That is a game I am interested in though, mainly cos I remember your write up about it a while back.
I know this is a bit more work, but could people give a short description or such about the games, rather than just a straight up list.

DP is on the 360 as well. I'm not sure how playable the PC version is at this stage, but apparently there's (
http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?p=412) a patch which fixes a bunch of things (made by the same guy who made the Dark Souls fix).

cool will look for the 360 version then, it seems like more of a console experience.

Try Amnesia: The Dark Descend, the second part of the series is not that good IMO, but the first one is extremely well made horror game! If you are up for some Resident Evil kind of action I also recommend Cold Fear and I definitely second the recommendation of the Condemned: Criminal Origins. An awesome FPS in itself, but very scary too. Also F.E.A.R. (the first one) and the Extraction Point expansion are really good too.
As for the Deadly Premonition I tried the PC version a while ago and didn't like it much. I didn't really have that much of a problem with the controls, I just couldn't get over the fact that the main protagonist - apparently an experienced FBI agent - constantly acted like he just escaped from a mental asylum. The guy appeared to be a walking comical relief which kinda ruined the whole horror thing for me.

Try Outlast, it's deliciously scary and one of the best games of 2013.

the whole gory weird flesh monsters in an abandoned asylum isnt really my thing, though would be willing to give it a go if the game is up to par. Something more understated, remember the old point n click Darkseed, that was awesome.

Idk if it's your type but Alan Wake was a great experience. It's more of a survival TPS than horror, but it's an awesome game whichever way you look at it. I've played the PC version, which is a decent port except for the motion blur, but I managed to remove that by looking up a fix online.
