I've got a horse model that I'd like to animate via models to imitate walking. Here is the (

LINK so you can see the model's specs.
I understand that each model will require vertex/poly manipulation. The rigged models are software-specific and very expensive, so I have to do this using the redneck method.
Some how-to's are in order:
* Hooking up Jason Otto's gypsy wagon to the horse.
* Setting up a straight path that loops the objects through the terrpts so that it repeats. (Not possible, me thinks.) Or, a one-time sequence of the horse and wagon traveling down a road?
* Getting the wagon wheels to turn. (Break it apart with R Soul's DEOC and particle attach the wheels?)
* Apply Model/Controls/Rotational Velocity to the wheels?
* Most importantly, how will it affect gameplay?
What other hassles are in store for attempting this?

At one time I was working on an anatomically correct horse model in the hopes that we would soon have limit planes and motions defined, but as that hope faded, I stopped work. It is too high poly for models animation, at close to 4000 polys, so you would have to cut the polys by more than half to use it, but if you want it, you are welcome to it.

As to your questions,
* Hooking up Jason Otto's gypsy wagon to the horse. --- Some sort of attach, unless you can get the cart & horse to be one model.
* Setting up a straight path that loops the objects through the terrpts so that it repeats. (Not possible, me thinks.) Or, a one-time sequence of the horse and wagon traveling down a road? --- this should be simple if you make the horse an AI like the mouse.
* Getting the wagon wheels to turn. (Break it apart with R Soul's DEOC and particle attach the wheels?) --- this is just adding joints to the wagon for the wheels, like the locomotive. Easy.
* Apply Model/Controls/Rotational Velocity to the wheels? --- Easy
* Most importantly, how will it affect gameplay? --- This is entirely up to you. An issue for you to think about is what to do with those idiots who will shoot arrows at the horse. How will it die in harness?

The horse in the link above has only 274 polys. It should be fine for Thief. AccuTrans3D can also add polys if needs be.
I thought about the player thing. They'll try all kinds of things and request more realism to accommodate any interactions they cook up. A nice Instant Death Stim should do nicely. :ebil:

Either way, you'll need to put in a lot of work to make a decent horse model that you can use with a cart. Don't forget to remove the saddle from your model ...
