Missed my first post on the subject, huh? :D
Anyway, thanks for acknowledging my presence here. I was beginning to think I'd been filtered :p
I could have sworn your first post on the subject was unspecific, and seemed to indicate that you thought the bells were so other people would know that the undead were coming out of their graves or something. Chalk one up to few-pages-back misinterpretation, I suppose.

Sry for digging out this old thread but this is indeed one of the most interesting lore topics to me, so I´d like to tell you my (crazy) theory:
(Lol, some sort of an irony that I got a "Necromancy Warning" on that post")
(sry for my poor english. Some sentences may sound confusing...)
Well, here we go:
Its all about enthopy - the theory that disorder in the universe always increases - never decreases....
Example: When a stone hits the floor, ORDERED energy (movement) turns into UNORDERED energy (heat).
As we all know from our experience it´s seems that it never happens the other way round - that heat turns into movement - the stone would "jump" though nobody touches it.....
Well, the theory says that its not completely impossible but the chances that this happens are so small that in the complete life-span universe it will never happens anywhere this way...So you can say that the distribution of chances is VERY ordered in our universe....
Let´s come to the core of my theory:
The Trickster stands for chaos - so lets say he uses "chaotic energies", which I think flows very intense through all of his supernatural creatures and plants...even through microscopic ones...
So a guy gets ill and dies in the end because of some sort of plague - but its not a normal plague as through the bacteria flows this chaotic energy. After that, more and more creatures infest the body - all of them full of this energy - beetles, worms, maggots, bacteria etc....
The Body starts to rot which produces......HEAT! (Of course more heat than usual as they are supernatural creatures...)
And now it comes....This Heat does not only spread outside the body as usual but does also result in movement - (re-)animation of the organs!
The chaotic energies results in an extreme increase of the possibility that heat turns into movement - the distribution of the possibilities as we know it gets completly disorderd......
So all the Organs start to work - powered by the heat of their own rotting!
(Of course this doesnt last for long, and of course it isnt a perpetum mobile as this procedure takes a lot of this chaotic magical energies....)
Well, though all the organs do work, the whole body isnt animated in the normal way of living beeings - so the breathing of the zombies is simple a "side-effect" as the lungs are also reanimated....
This newborn craeture posesses no real human intelligence - just the instinct for using their organes to sense, move and attack...
I think this fits into the philosophy of the Trickster: Rotting and Life at the same time - both fast and intense! Maybe all of his magical creatures have a weaker form of this procedure while their bodies are still working in the "normal way" but they arent necessarily undead as this would represent the peak of chaotic energies....

Heat can turn into movement - any vehicle powered by steam for starters.

What you mean is true for every combustian engine....
But what entropy means is a procedure where heat turns DIRECTLY into movement by coincident....like the stone example....(well. more correct would be that that is the procedure which will never occur...)
