How did you find out about Thief (the original games)? My story is pretty boring: was looking for a good stealth game, someone recommended TDP, and then I got it. I don't know who recommended it, but THANK YOU to that person.

My is pretty boring too. When i was a kid (like 6 years old), i found the T2 demo on a CD from some german magazine. My first thought was that i am somebody like Robin Hood, robbing the houses and stuff :p i liked that experience very, very much. Some years later i got original Thief Dark Project, finished it, then Thief Metal Age, and then Thief Deadly Shadows. Since then i'm in love in Thief universe and i'm recommending it to everyone who values good, immersive games.

Thief Gold demo. I think it came with the PC Gamer magazine.

I'm too lazy to type it all out, so here's my story the intro thread a few years ago:
I've been playing Thief since 2003, when I found a Thief 1 demo in an old Tomb Raider CD I had. I fell madly in love right there, and have been a hardcore Thief player ever since. I've played Thief Gold, 2, and T2X, but I still prefer Thief 1/Gold - it just has that special feel.
The first time I bought my full copy of Thief Gold, I played it from 3pm to sunrise the next day non stop - truly the most addictive and immersive game I've ever played. Nowadays, I mainly play Thief FM's, but occasionally still play the original TG/2 levels.

It was the year, 1998. Christmas gift from now ex-husband. The gift that keeps on giving, and one I'm sure he regretted giving me later.

Exact same for me. It must have been one of the first PC Gamer magazines I'd bought since Thief came out in '98 and I got my first PC in '99.

The Metal Age came with a new stock computer. I decided that I wanted to play the first game. I eventually got it and had the most delightful evening with it. Oddly enough, I remembered a friend playing The Dark Project years prior. They didn't seem to like it very much.

The year was 1998 or 1999, I had just bought a new sound card and T1 came bundled with it.

December 1998, Thief 1 demo from the CD supplement of a game magazine. Got enchanted on my first try, even if at the time, I did not even like FPS games, and was really, really bad at playing one. But here was something completely different.
I think I first got into fan missions around 2001, when the same CD came with a bunch of FMs on it.

A guy at work gave me a CD-R of The Dark Project.
DEAL WITH IT.
(I later acquired boxed copies of every Thief game)
