The TDP demo was on a CD of some crappy Finnish PC magazine. I never actually played it myself as it was too scary for a little kid like I was, but I watched my brother play for hours. Yep, hours on the first (two) mission(s) :D . As I found it to be too scary I never played it, but it was 'around' some time. I found it again some years ago, and played the first two games through.

A guy at work gave me a CD-R of The Dark Project.
I got a pirated copy too. I also went on to get genuine copies, though my TG was off ebay.

My brother, the unjustly infamous and now banned Alvar, was the first to play Thief: The Dark Project upon release day. After I finally finished solving every aspect of the glorious Might and Magic VI, he forced me to play it. Im glad he did.

My brother got the game, didn't like it all the much so he lent it to me. Very few games have had an impact on me that was so profound.

I ordered a gaming PC from Gateway in early 1999 and the TDP disc(s) were included in a bundle. Funny that it took me until 2006 to find TTLG and discover the world of FMs.

Me and my cousin first found the demo of TDP on a CD from a magazine, we might have been around 10-11 at the time. Needless to say, the atmosphere of the game completely enthralled us. The funny part was that at that time neither of us spoke any English whatsoever and that gave the game an even more mysterious quality (it wasn't localized in our language, not even a manual). We got the game shortly after we finished the demo (several times) and gradually explored what it offered. And there was a lot! I still remember us trying to find our way through the Lost City with a dictionary in hand, translating the objectives and notes we found. Great memories!

In 2007 I bought a package containing 30 vintage games for 10 Euros or so, mostly old Tomb Raider and car racing games and an old medieval game with horrible graphics, that I didn't try.
Later I lent the games to my brother who really seemed to like that medieval game for some reason.
I wondered what he liked so much about it and he let me play "Shipping and Receiving". Since that day Thief is my favorite series of video games and Shipping and Receiving is still my favorite mission.

My oldest brother had the '98 demo and raved about it. He eventually left it unguarded so I snagged it for myself. Thieved to play Thief.

I first found out about thief when I was 6 years old when my stepfather was playing the game. I was really amazed and I loved to watch it. I think the first mission I watched him play was "Right Up There In The Mountains" Yes I think that was the one. Just how everything played out and how nice it was made me fascinated and made me love watching him play thief. BTW this was back in 2005 so it wasn't too long ago but it feels like it is. Then when it came to 2006 I played my first mission which was "A Lovely Night".
From what I remember is that I was very confused with how the controls worked as I had never played any PC game before at the time and because I was only 7 :laff: I don't think I started to take the game seriously until I was 11 in 2010. I didn't get thief gold until 2010, when I first played it I really loved it as I liked it better than thief 2 due to it being more simple to me and in the same year I played through the OMs which were far more confusing to me. Also I can remember that I got really confused in down in the bonehoard and had too skip it because I kept getting lost. I also remember skipping the sword which was really confusing to me back then due to its crazy level design. But then I replayed it and used walkthroughs for the hard levels:erg::nono:
There were also two levels in thief 2 that confused me and also forced me to use walkthroughs, they were Tracing the courier and Sabotage at Soulforge. I think I have played through the OMs 7 times and haven't done so in a long time. Now I only play thief a little because of how busy I am in dromed but I still really enjoy playing thief :cheeky:;)

I got TDP because it was included with the (

Also, a bit off-topic but perhaps of interest: Back then I also had a friend who had the TDP Bafford demo and I distinctly remember having tried that at his house and noticing how it was different from the final version of Bafford's Manor. Specifically, the fact that there was a wooden beam in the pool area and you had rope arrows that you could then use to get up to the second floor.
