I started dromeding on Thief 2 by myself while I was doing the JET Program in Japan, 2000-2001, without home internet access, just based on the files & docs on the CD. It wasn't until after I got back to the US a little while that I searched dromed seeing what else was out there. That led me to Komag's Contest 3 going on, which led me here to know how to play them.
My first FM was Telliamed's Thief CRF. My first post here was a question on an FM with a portal in the mouth of a statue-head that was borked (forgetting the FM just now) that Nightwalker answered. Then a post introducing myself, in I think one of the predecessors of the "Who Are You?" thread in ThiefGen.

I registered way back in the summer of 2002 when I was trying to find out where to get a copy of SS2. I remember ZylonBane from back then because he was on the VBB forums a few years before that. The Newbie Guide never hurt anyone. I eventually found SS2 at a shop in the local mall of all places, played it, then disappeared from TTLG for over five years. Totally forgot about this place, didn't even lurk.
I came back to TTLG during the run up to Bioshock 1's release. I generally avoid official company forums, and since BS1 was being touted as a spiritual successor to SS2 at the time, I figured this was the natural place to find out more from actual gamers. For some reason I haven't disappeared like last time.

I think I was looking for walkthroughs or missions for Thief 1 and found the forums through the Thief: The Circle webpage. It was most likely walkthroughs come to think of it. Thief 1 scared the crap out of me the first time I played it and I used an infinite arrows trainer to get through the undead based missions. I was, and still am amazed at the kinds of things people were able to make with DromEd.
I never posted until the Thievery UT forums were hosted here though (under a different name that I stopped using because it was way too cheesy).

From yahoo-ing Thief reviews back in 1999-2000.
My 15 seconds of fame came a bit later when I asked how others set up their Thief 2 keyboard layout ... And learned I was doing it wrong using KEYBOARD ONLY!
Thank Cthulhu, my bumbling first profile is long forgotten.

Thief brought me here. This was the first place where I encountered a lot of people who loved this game. It was odd, none of my friends were into it the way I was. That was okay cuz I found all the taffers.

Thief. '1000 clues that you have been playing thief way to much ...' thread, to be precise. My husband and I were looking for games like Thief, having played the hell out of TDP and TMA and our search led us to TTLG. And fan-made missions. In retrospect, I now liken joining TTLG to checking-in to the Hotel California.

When LGS closed, that's when I found this place.
I lurked for a year, then starting posting mostly in the SS2 and DX forums. I was a fan of Thief, but didn't feel fan enough to join in the Thief forums.

Dad can home with half a heat on, Mom fell for his blarney, they had a tumble. Nine months later there I was in her arms in the Maternity ward! :)

I can't remember the exact reason that brought me to these forums, but I know it was System Shock 2 related. At the earliest stages I was heavily in the System Shock 2 fan mission community, part of me always will be. Isn't too many forum members left back from those days in 2001.

So how did I get here? It started out the usual way. I played Thief. Hated it. Played it again a few months later. Loved it. Heard about these things called Fanmissions, and eventually wound up here. I signed up in 2002, and maybe posted once or twice.
But what really got me talking around here wasn't Thief, or Deus Ex, or even System Shock. It was the Arx Fatalis demo. I loved it so much, I hopped onto the board here and started talking about all the secrets I had found while playing it. One thing lead to another, and the next thing I know, I'm posting heavily in the Thief 3 Anticipation forum, making fun of overly negative people screaming about how ISA doesn't get it, every change they make ruins the game forever, and how they're too hardcore for THE MAINSTREAM to pay attention to them!
Remember when ISA posted those pictures of the blue footsteps from the tutorial, and a bunch of people used it as proof that they dumbed the game down for the console kiddies? I mean comeon. The proof is right in front of you! The whole game shows you exactly where to go!
...yeah. I guess the old adage is true. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
