I am a newcomer to Morrowind but thanks to the many excellent sites devoted to it I found that I could learn the basics very quickly. I completed the tasks in Seyda Neen, even raided the Census and Excise warehouse by climbing over the roof ( gained a couple of acrobat points there), polished off the mage in the cave after begin smoked only three times and set off proudly to Balmora.
I had been looking forward to riding the Silt Strider, imagining the glorious scenery wooshing by as this fantastic beast transported me over the treacherous marshes etc etc. So I paid the pilot for transport and. . . .
what a let down! There I am in Balmora with no experience of the voyage!
Do we ever get to ride a Strider? Even see one moving? It would cheer me up
a lot if I knew it was coming.

The scout in the Seyda Neen tradehouse suggests tells you how to have beautiful scenary rushing past you. Walk, it is the best way around.

Its not that I am looking for beautiful scenery, It is just that my expectations were raised and then let down. The idea of a Siltstrider ride had captured my imagination, which is where, apparantly, it will have to stay.
If the rest of Morrowind consists of standing around in rooms with swaying characters who don't do very much unless you attack them, I can see myself getting bored of it very quickly

Possibly, alot of people do. It is the people who try to get everything out of a game who get stuck with it...BECAUSE MORROWIND ALWAYS HAS MORE!!!
Oh and keep in mind, Morrowind is quite an old game now, the sequal is almost out. You can't expect hollow flashiness from a game which took so long to make in the first place.

Get the living silt strider mod, they become creatures walking around and I think they can kick the crap out of you too!

I would prefer to take a ride inside one of the flying jellyfish.

It may be on the high seas as opposed to through the high passes, but try one of the boat mods. You get to cruise up and down the coasts in real time, which is a new experience for the previously pedestrian bound world of Morrowind...

(
http://www.thelys.org/mods.php?a=Kellick_Stormcrow#Stormrider) A link! To a ship mod! The best one, I think. (Thanks again to Live.)
I've never tried out any of the 'mount' mods (rideable Guars and horses), but I find that with the way the body in Morrowind is constructed, it just looks awkward and unreal when you put that body ontop of a Guar. Or horse. Same with the mods that allow NPC's to sit down.
