i give it a Bplus

There are lots of posts and threads regarding that question. If you are new to the forums, a search would give you a lot.
If you are new to THIEF, then I can accept your B plus. If you are a veteran, you need to rethink your "score".
I give it a D plus, or possibly a C minus. Compared to the original it is a Model T Ford, if not an Edsel.
T3 is so hackneyed that even the superior graphics don't salvage it from being pretty much ho-hum.

And, unfortunately, I find myself disagreeing with you, sir. It is, as far as I'm concerned, a solid B.

It's a pretty good game, but not much more then that.

That's what makes horseraces Solabusca.
We can agree to disagree. The main weakness in T3 to me is the lack of "openness". Areas are arbitrarilly blocked off. A 3 foot wall you can jump on or over in one area becomes an impenetrable wall in another. A wall you can climb in one area is blocked in another area, even if the wall has exactly the same texture.
The forced routing, as opposed to the freedom of choice given in the originals is stifling.
It is playable, but not "memorable" nor as appealing to replay as the originals.
But to each his own.
One good example is the "secret" tunnel to the museums. If you do discover it "prematurely", you are arbitrarily blocked from further exploration in that area. It would have been much better to put a locked gate or other obstruction there. Mom could have left a note with information about where the boys needed to get the key, explosives, or whatever to continue. Or, make it completely unavailable at that first go through in Auldale.
As it is nearly every player who finds that before the "proper" time thinks it is a bug because of the unreasonable "block" that is there.

yeah, what you sez. I still love the game cuz Im a Thief junky.
I dont find the graphics to be that much better. In T1 the graphics look greAT if you turn down the brightness. RTC is a work of art when you make it really dark.
I think the best Thief is T2 fan missions. The mission with the invisible keepers was :thumb:

If the game is enjoyable, which it was to me, then it's done the job. :)

I didn't like forced routing either, but that is unfortunately standard in so many games so it wasn't the deal killer for me. that honor is reserved for the shoddy controls. for me, the game starts there.
thief, more than any other game, is about being fully immersed in the shoes of the protagonist, a fleet-footed thief with superior skills in the sneaky arts. what we got was a drunken, lurching gimp who couldn't even peek around corners properly and kept falling off of ledges. it's not that things like lack of rope arrows or linear levels didn't bother me, but the game was ruined for me as a uniquely thief experience way before that, no matter how many pagans and hammers are strolling around.
i give it a C-. consider that grade a rough midpoint between how i feel about it when i feel charitable and don't consider its proud lineage (C) and when I judge it as it should be judged, as part of the series (D-).
EDIT: I know the math on those grades may not exactly work out, but it feels about right.

I personally give Thief Deadly Shadows a solid B, the same as other games.
I got into the series late (this year), and have a pretty much fresh look on the games. Thief Dark Project together with the Metal Age and Deadly Shadows form a single, coherent story arc and that's what buys me into the series.
In terms of gameplay, they are both pretty equal, with DS offering a less non-linear but more intense experience, while the two earlier games are more free form.
I love the story. DS is a perfect closure, and while it has it's drawbacks, I don't see it any different in terms of quality from previous games (and before someone calls me a console kid, please consider that I absolutely loved Planescape Torment for the amount of text).
As for the complaints... what the hell is with the love for the forward lean? I admit, it's damn useful, but seeing how Garrett leans makes me cringe. Is his butt so heavy that it counterbalances the extent to which he reaches out?
