I just finished t3 and was somewhat disappointed by the ending.
Unless you played TDP and TMA, the ending probably is lost on a lot of people (which is why they should've gone ahead and named it Thief 3:Deadly Shadows).

I played all 3 games. what did I miss?

Watch the first video in TDP, before training, it should help explain the ending

you mean how it comes full circle? that was kinda cool.
the more I play t3 the more I like it. I just wish it has the freedom the other 2 games had.
The best thief is thief 2 fan missions. they rock. props to those who take the time to make them. wish I could buy them a beer or something

I thought the ending was appropriate, but to me it didn't feel complete not because it was a bad ending but because the rest of the game didn't quite build up to the good ending DS had. If the game were a blockbuster I think the ending would have been appreciated more.

Thief gold A+. My favorite game for all time.
Metal age A+. Great follow up
Deadly shadows C. its not as memorable were I don't get goosebumps over it.
Fan missions that I've played for 1&2 are better.

I'd give:
Thief 1 - a B+
Thief Gold - an A
Thief 2 - an A
Thief 3 - a B-
I'd go with that, I'd possibly even give T3 a C
T3 lost too much from it's precedents, rope arrows, leaning, jumping, ladders, swimmable water, the weapons that didn't work the same way, the inability to KO an alerted opponent even if they are blinded or any opponent if they are sitting to name a few
it did have some good things, the graphics were good, the story line wasn't bad, there were notable missions (cradle), new weapons and tools and the architecture was gorgeous
the mission developers put their heart and soul into it and came up with the best they could given the time and resources they had, and it
was an excellent game, but it wasn't Thief
on the whole it suffered because of deadline pressure, financial pressure and bastardisation/simplification/truncation for console users (sorry console users but it was), if it had been made just for PC which is where the majority of Thief fans play and a bit more time had been allowed for development it could have been a masterpiece, but the bean counters wanted the console market and they had a deadline so they tied the hands of the development crew and we got T3

I'm only on the second level (the City). I have a nVidia 7300 GT, 256MB video memory, and the gameplay is...muddy. I feel like I'm walking through mud, and when I move with the mouse, it's...well, not good. Not terribly slow, but not smooth. I see all kinds of rendering problems--seams on edges and characters. Maybe my video card is too old? I didn't think it was that old. I see similar things in Half-Life 2 (like the edge of water), but that performs much smoother than Thief 3.
Not to mention the load times...Great Zombie Jesus, there is a lot of waiting in this game. All of this doesn't inspire me to play it very often. I'm barely into the game, and it feels like a beta.

I know very little about the 7300. I am assuming it is last gen's entry-level/integrated Nvidia card. However it is 2 generations newer than Thief-Deadly Shadows. I ran that game on an ati 9600 vanilla 256MB and it ran just as fast on a 9800 PRO, which ran it just as fast as a 6800 GT. It even plays like that on my X-Box.
Point being, I am 99% sure that the sluggishness you are experiencing is rooted to the game itself, not you specs.

The way you're describing it it doesn't seem like the muddy controls I described, sounds a bit more unresponsive, but opinion is probably just varying on what we consider sluggish or muddy. As for the seams on edges, what do you have the game settings at? You might need to have vsync on or turn up the multisampling (you don't get bloom for the Unreal 2 engine though).
