You simply drop it into the folder with the original EXE and the new one will overwrite it.

But they don't have the same name as the original so it doesn't ask me to overwrite it. Can I delete it and then just place the other one in the folder?

Real Ninjas would know how to do this.
Open the Thief directory in a window, find and rename your original .exe file to something like thief.bak just in case it all goes pear shaped. Drag windowspaint.exe or what ever it is that you've got into the window from where ever it is that you have it (hold down CTRL or ALT, can't remember which, so you copy rather than move the file, you'd kick yourself if Windows Paint stopped working) and rename it thief.exe
Win.

It turns out my version is all ready 1.33 yet I'm still getting the "report texture error." Anyone have any ideas to get it to work?

I figured it out. In the in-game settings the Hardware option was on. I turned it off and it works fine. Thanks for the help.
