Just wondering if anyone else has found that Thief in some small way has improved your life whether it is some small saying that you use or a way of seeing things etc
For me I have found that I am extremely good at finding lost things around the home, I have 3 boys aged 1, 3 and 5 and the number of things that they pick up and put down somewhere else is astounding. More to the point my wife and friends are always amazed when I find something in a place that they never would have thought to look or suggest that they check somewhere that they hadnt considered. I put it down to all the sneaking about in Thief and frobbing everything I can touch just to see if there is a secret lever or passage somewhere or maybe a piece of loot hidden under the Amoire or behind a desk.
Maybe not but its nice to think so

I quit my job and make my living as a cat burglar now. It's nice, and it gives me more time to play Thief.

I used to club people most crudely with a half-brick wrapped in an old scarf, but since I have invested in a heavy but gentle blackjack, everything has gone much more smoothly, and people go down with less of a fuss.
Thank you, LGS! :D

I'm more cautious, sometimes I just wanna break out the old black jack and have it. I'm afraid of being arrested, or have them turn on me. Barely 5'2" does have its advantages of slipping into small places and spaces when need be.
I too have the knack for finding lost items, I'll find it come hell or high water. I've come to appreciate the Renaissance era. I'm a full fledge dork that loves the Ren Faires now. CURSE YOUR EYES!

I found a drinking buddy.
...no one pushes Benny around.
No one.

It's helped my (2nd Edition) D&D games quite a bit for rogue-type characters. There's lots of challenging situations, locations and traps I can throw at my sneaker players that I've stolen from Thief games and fan missions. Plus tons of names and slang from the games that fit in well with D&D.

I would't say its improved my life, but there are times when there's,an opportunity to slip into this dark exciting world for the odd hour, which relieves the stress.
I do use the phrase "Better check my map" quite often...as the slag on the sat-nav often gets it wrong.:D..the odd quips from thief I sometimes use,add to my daily life humour and well being

It's opened up so many creative avenues, introduced me to so many cool people, and just enriched my life in so many ways that money could never buy. I'd bore myself listing out everything that's happened as a result of trying the TMA game out that came with a friend's soundcard back in 2001. Having been personally contacted by EM was a highlight of 2009, as was meeting a local taffer who donated an old system so I could experience TDM and help beta-test. Having a kind soul donate his extra TDS DVD after my own disc was ruined and making a new friend. Meeting people with just as much passion for compiling encyclopedic data and digging through the game-files rooting for truffles. Being honored by Digi to help with CoSaS and CoT projects, as crippled as I've been. Making friend after friend beyond being mere 'Net buddies has just been fantastic. Finding this home away from home when I've had no home. Finding out the devs' influences and discovering them for myself, in literature, film, and the arts, and having my mind expanded. The sheer privilege of knowing games can be made that are not frag-fests, mindless, fast-twitch, but are thoughtful, intelligent, funny, creepy, dark, serious, campy, rich, literate, passionate, mainly non-commercial, non-mass-marketed, where I can take my time, is precious to me and has never been matched. Meeting people who are head and shoulders above the status quo and enemies of mediocrity, but who have a wicked and wry sense of humor and aren't afraid of the inner-child. Being able to contribute in some meaningful way to more people, and give back to the community. Meeting people from all over the globe, and enjoying our sameness, while learning about our differences. I could go on and on and on and on....

I have computer un-savvy friends who keep asking me how to get Thief 2 running on XP and Vista. Over the phone. And they don't know how to rename a folder, let alone setup ddfix.
Sigh.

... and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on-
I say that finding thief introduced me to a game that is fun, and not just because of the graphics. Graphics in Thief just grow on ya.
