I've played the demo of Deus Ex, and I wasn't that impressed with it. The characters seemed flat, and the graphics seemed bland. I've played Thief and System Shock 2 and enjoyed them immensely. How does the demo compare to the rest of the game?

I can not imagine how you could consider the game flat with poor graphics. I throughly enjoyed the game so much that I intend to play it again with a different ending.
Perhaps it's your video card or system performance. I played the game it 1024x768 32 bit with my GeForce2 GTS 32 meg DDR video card. My system (AMD 950 mhz, oc'ed to 1050) made the game completely enjoyable.
Get the game. You will not be sorry.

I, too, don't understand the comment on the graphics unless you were using software mode. The game is awesome. Get it, play it.

The demo is an excellent representation of the entire game. If you didn't like the demo I don't imagine you'd like the full game any better. Note: the newest demo has two full missions now in case you want a bigger sample or time to discover whether it gets any better for you.

Deus Ex is the best game I have ever played, and yes i'm a taffer and a shockling too.

I always thought that the demo was kinda bad. I didn't even play the demo, i just went out straight and bought it. While i loved the design of Liberty Island, the level itself was *really* hard. I guess it's cause i was new and i didn't save like a madman.
Anywhoo -- DX is the game of the year -- you know what that means? IT'S THE BEST GAME OF THE YEAR! So get it! You *WILL* love it, especially if you loved SS2.

It had good graphics, but seemed bland, as in lacked detail. I played it at 800x600 on a GeForce256. I thought Thief's graphics looked alot more impressive, because the textures were so well made. The demo palette in the demo lacked variety, pretty much brown, grey, and green for the grass. The mirror effect was cool though.
How's the story and character development?

I have been playing games since the atari days but I have to say that this has got to be the most interesting and open ended game I have every played. I enjoyed half-life but I finished the game in no time. I am on the 6th mission and I think I am addicted. I have played to the point I am 3 times with diffrent ways of doing the game ie. shooting, sneaking ,hacking etc. Always somthing new to discover great game no doubt about it.

The story and character development in Deus Ex is awesome. You can't even compare it to other FPS's. More comparable to RPG's.

i love it. the npc interaction and sheer number of them is second to none ... except maybe the fallout series or any mmoprg.
