Hey, chill both of you.
What Jonas meant was that altough the thread could be accordingly named, it doesn't matter at all. Now, can you go back to thieveing please? I just got your purses and they're too light.
No need to tell me to chill. I just made an observation, so what, he was the one that got all bent out of shape about it, sad really.

I read this glowing review on Adrenaline Vault, probably the same day it was written (December 19, 1998):

It was the end of finals week during my sophomore year of college, and I had some time to kill. I downloaded the demo (and probably demos of a bunch of other games too) and I knew immediately that Thief was something special. I asked my parents to get me Thief (and Half-Life) for Christmas.
I remember what the house smelled like when I played Thief for the first time. I think there was a lot of light in the room, too.
I remember getting stuck in the mines in Cragscleft, and I set the game aside for a while and played Half-Life. Eventually I picked up Thief again and I've been hooked ever since (though I do go for months at a time without playing).
My first time, I played the entire game without using a single flash bomb. I didn't know how useful they were and I wasn't good enough with the controls that I would have been able to pull one out at the right time anyway. Now, controlling Thief comes as naturally to me as breathing.

In 1998, so I've been playing eight years.

I did play the Thief Gold demo around the time it was released but I wasn't impressed, I didn't really try the series until this year. No idea why, I guess nobody I knew really recommended it to me and I had other games to play at the time the first two games came about.

In the Autumn of 1998, I was up to my ears in the beloved Might Magic VI. At the same time, my younger brother was purchasing Thief I. He enjoyed it, and I even watched him play (secretly mocking it in my rpg warped mind). It wasn't until Jan of Feb of 99' that he finally convinced me to play the damn thing. And of course, as I stormed Bafford's gate with a vengeance, I met an untimely demise. The very next reload, I took about 10 minutes standing still actually looking at and absorbing the atmosphere. It was then that I realised what I had on my computer. The final Looking Glass masterpiece. And yes, I am also one of those Ultima fanatics who believes that Thief is a true RPG.

Wow - I didn't realize we had so many old timers in here! Sept. 98 for me, when PC Gamer ran the demo in their cover disc. Bought the game the next week. I'd never played a game that long before (wasn't really a gamer), and I remember staying up for 36 hours straight playing it the first time. My wife was seriously concerned about me and kept asking if I was feeling ok. She'd come into my office, flip the light on, and I'd jump and scream, "Turn it off! Turn it off! They'll see!!!!!!"
Ah....good times...

I started playing in autumn 98. My classmate who tried the demo kept talking about thief all day long (even during classes) for at least two weeks. I finally decided to buy a copy just to shut his mouth ;) I even didn't plan to try it because I wasn't a gamer and also my computer was too weak. However when I saw tdp for first time in action (cragscleft) I changed my mind. I was so impressed that I decided to upgrade my pc immediately and play this masterpiece :ebil:

I tried the Dark Project demo when it was released but I didn't buy the game until september 2000. That was Thief Gold. A few months later I bought Thief 2.

Been playing since 1998. First time through Cragscleft a zombie startled me so badly that I flipped my chair over backward and banged my head against the floor. Good times...
