started with thief gold, spring 2004, primarily out of interest stirred up by thief 3's release.
haven't looked back since.

As soon as it came out.. either 98 or 99.. Same as T2 and T3. Just simply had to have them when they were released. Once I'd started playing the first one I was hooked. Somewhere over the years I lost my original Thief, and managed to get hold of a Thief Gold. So I'm staring it all again. Never tried the fm's so there's more to do this time round. Really looking forward to T2X.
The first game I bought for my first pc was System Shock. That blew me away.

2004, for me.
I was flipping through the channels, and caught an episode of X-Play, and they reviewed Thief: Deadly Shadows. I thought the concept of a game based on stealth was awesome, so I rented it for the X-Box.
Four weeks of rentals later, I finally bought my own copy. The wifey got me TDP, TG, and TMA for aniversary/birthday/Christmas gifts.
And THEN, I found out about all these talented, thief addicted people online making levels that I could download...:sly:

My late husband brought TDA home right after it was released (1999?). We'd both played the demo and fell in love with it (guess I should say we became addicted). It wasn't until after I'd played TMA a couple times that I discovered there were FMs. Oh Joyous Day!!
Been playing ever since.

Been stealing and making the guards lives miserable since the start (1998). I still remember following up on TDP through PC Zone (UK magazine) and upon reading the review I just had to have it. It got 90 % if my memory serves me correct... Never bothered with the demo I think. The atmosphere, storyline, weapons, setting, all top notch.
After that of course came Thief 2. I played the demo, was instantly amused with it. When the guards start discussing and me cowering in the shadows overhearing their hilarious verbal ping pong, I made a decision: Thief Two bes mine, by the Builder!! The game is even better than TDP IMO and the last level is a true masterpiece of level design, a fitting finale...
Up to 2004 re-playing TDP and TMA multiple times. Haha good times... Then Thief 3 came out, bought that, found it quite good but not as good as the first two. Best part about it though is the City free-roaming aspect. That's a brilliant design choice but sadly the levels are too small in comparison to T1 and 2 (horrible design choice).
I've only gotten Thief Gold earlier this year, played those 3 extra missions and instantly remembered my love for the first two titles.
Upon completing my second playthrough of DS, I will sink my teeth into some of the FMs I have been recommended to play.
Bye taffers !

I started playing thief II relatively late, sometime in 2004. I played it for a while to distraction, than got too busy to play. Then later, I recently pulled it back out, briefly considered buying thief III, but had to back down as my pc at the time couldn't handle it (might consider buying it now).

Umm... 2001? Probably...

I've had Thief Gold and TMA for about 4 years now, but I never played either until recently, as I couldn't get them working properly on XP. Some moron told me to use DosBox with them. So needless to say, I tossed them in a drawer until very recently.
Then I got Thief Deadly Shadows when it first came out, which is now one of my favorites. I've played it several times, even played several fan missions for it.
Then a few weeks ago, I got really bored since I hadn't played a game in months and decided to try Thief again. Found this forum a few years ago and used info here to get the games installed and working fine. Also just finished TX2.
Great games. I only have 2 real complaints with Thief 1 and 2.
1) Why can't I keep my gear throughout the game like in Thief 3? It doesn't make any sense that Garrett would ditch his gear after a mission, then go buy it all over again. I know the purpose is to add to the difficulty of each mission, but it's stupid. That's what the difficulty settings are for.
2) Why does Garrett seem to be wearing tap shoes? He makes so much noise when he walks. I've done my share of real burglaries and I never made noise like that, no matter what type of surface I was walking on.
I have the same complaint with Thief 3 that most people do: Why no rope arrows?

Late 2001, bought T2. Stopped playing after I gave up on Soulforge around 2002, then I got into it again after discovering FMS and bought TG and T3 in 2004.
