I see on VE3D.com that tey have a new poll up asking how long a FPS should take. I think that Deus Ex was just about perfect. BUT I can't remember how long it took! :) I thought that Thief was also great and kinda guess at that since I play a lot of add on missions and can then say 1 1/2 hour to a mission, but was wondering what the rest of you like minded people thought. We are talking atcual save time I guess. As some missions I've played at that 1 1/2 hour point took WAY longer. Check it out out and vote. Great web site anyway.

i think there can be a big difference in how long it takes one to finish a game: When I played Thief for the first time, it took me quite short. I missed tons of things, and I played it on Normal, of course, so this time was not representative. But now, as I'm currently playing it for the 6th time on Expert, it doesn't take me long neither, for I know everything that is in there already. The same applies to DX.
Dunno, but we'd have to establish a certain measure and test all games under the same circumstances. I mean, it looks odd if you read: Time it takes an average player under average circumstances to complete an average shooter of average difficulty and so on. We'd have to go way farther into detail, but that'd be too complicated.
Why not leave it as is and hope that the games we buy are entertaining, no matter how long we actually play them.

That's interesting santaclaws, because Thief and DX take me longer than they ever did. Because in Thief I'm trying to get every single piece of loot and in DX i talx to pretty much everyone and go everywhere. I spent so much more time in Hell's Kitchen (the Underworld, Smuggler's, getting Ford Schick, the Free Clinic, the 'Ton) than I ever did the first time I played.

OK. But that's like the second or third time you play it. As soon as you play it for the 6th or 7th time, you'll notice that you know everything. Same applies to Thief: As soon as you know where all the loot is, you won't forget it anymore - - - - -> The time it takes you to finish it decreases.
I don't think that the amount of time it takes me to play a book has any relation to the entertainment. Just think about this analogy: A 2h-film can be way more boring than a really cool film that takes just half an hour. Or a book of 20 pages can be way better than a novel of 600 pages. IMO, that is.
