After reading Lost_Soul's post above, I began thinking about how software sales would go if we all lived under a different system of government. Lets see how things would work out..
Capitalism-
Consumer: Hey, I just bought this game two weeks ago and I used up my three installs cuz my computer kept crashing. Now it won't let me play the game anymore. Could I have my money back?
Seller: NO! Didn't you read the EULA? You're allowed your three installs. Once they're gone, you have to pay for another copy of the license.
Consumer: What?!? That ain't right. I paid for this, I should be allowed to use this as many times as I want!
Seller: Not anymore. Big peeps need their ivory backscratcher all lubed up with your blood and toil.
Consumer: ...fuck me.
Seller: We just did. :D
Socialism-
A guy that wears black all the time and bitches about everything: I want to buy a copy of Cynicism 6, please.
Government Sanctioned Software Seller:Okie dokie. That'll be $299.50.
AGTWBATTABAE: What!?! After taxes, I only made $150. That ain't right!
GSSS: Roads gotta be paved sir, and Bill down the street needs false teeth. You gotta do your part, man!
AGTWBATTABAE: ....fuck me.
GSSS: You've been fucked three times this week already, sir. I think you're getting greedy.
Communism-
Citizen: It sure is cold out here, all waiting in line for so long for my free copy of The State Sure Is Great 8.
Mother Provider: Here you go, Citizen. Enjoy!
Citizen: Wow...this game looks shitty.
Mother Provider: wwwwwhHHHHAATT?
Citizen:*meanwhile, in prison*
Peaceful Anarchy-
Ain't no need for videogames. We be all Gears of Warring each other out in the streets.
So there you go. No matter which way we go, we're all screwed. Might as well dig ditches and sing sad, sad songs.
Your post was funny... I believe that Capitalism works great in areas like technology (hardware) development. It used to work great in the software industry too. The scales have gotten way off balance as time has progressed and publishers have excessive power. A publisher would rather assume the customer is guilty and pay a third party to build useless features than improve their game and or sell it at a lower price. Thus we have parasitic companies who sell "DRM solutions", which do nothing but increase prices.

Did you really need to quote the entire post?

Hey Lost_soul, will you getting Fallout 3? The core EXE is completely unprotected and the launcher app only has a simple disc check.
Rogue Keeper on 6/2/2009 at 15:43
A flavored condom coming in every gamebox would be fine.

No, I mostly play FPS games. I'm actually interested in playing Soldier of Fortune (both games). Do they have CD-Checks? I'm sure SOF2 has a CD-Key because it uses the Q3A engine, but those don't bother me.
I also wanted to try "dreamfall", but I read that even the demo has starfarce. It's a shame, the graphics in that game look very nice.
EvaUnit02 on 10/2/2009 at 01:24
The European retail copies of Dreamfall all have Starforce unfortunately. The North American version doesn't, so you could try and order that off of Ebay.
P.S. I heard that Soldier of Fortune (3): Payback was rubbish. The first two are supposed to be decent though. I dunno what DRM those two carry, I never played them.
