25, male.
My earliest computer games memories are playing games on my father's mac, probably around 1988-1990, but I forget. I remember playing radical castle, scarab of ra (which I found so scary that I got my mother to play when the mummy appeared: yes, I was a wuss), a version of lode runner, paper glider, and several others I can't google (a top down 2d air traffic controller game from that era, anyone?).
My parents were quite keen on limiting our exposure to tv / computer games / etc, so I didn't spend all that much time playing games untill my teens.
The first computer games I really spent a lot of time with were Civilisation 2 and Baldur's Gate (EDIT: oh, and Might & Magic 6). But I had no real contact with other gamers until I ventured online after completing Thief 1.

I'm not sure when I got my NES. I want to say Christmas 1987 but I'm not certain. It was around that time, though- certainly before 1989.
I was pretty much stuck with that for a while. In 1993 we got a computer, with Win 3.1, no sound, and the ability to play PC games like Commander Keen and whatnot. Later that year, I got a Gamegear... the next year, a SNES
and a Gameboy... year after that, Genesis, and in 1996 I got a 32X (lol.)
I got a Saturn and a Playstation in 1997 (two Playstations, actually- my dad's family had gotten me one but were using it, rather cruelly, as a way to force me to stay at dad's house because he wouldn't let me take it home with me- there was a big fight and they basically ruined my Christmas, thanks assholes. Mom got so pissed she went and bought me another one to play at home.) I also borrowed my mom's then-boyfriend's son's N64 a lot as he was only around every two weeks. I eventually gave it back to him permanently, but got my own when a classmate just gave me hers outright. I wasn't a big PC gamer in those days- I didn't have the internet until 1999, so all I had was Quake with no sound on a 486 (ran smoothly though!) and a bunch of consoles. I didn't start becoming a big PC gamer until around 2003- I still played mostly console games, including the PS2 I got in 2001 and the Gamecube I got in 2002 (I'd gotten a Dreamcast in 2000 but it sucked and broke and so did the second one I had, fuck Dreamcast.) In 2003 I got a new PC and we finally ditched dialup.

There's a point in life where you stop saying "nearly" and start saying "only".

Seriously then.
34, male. Started with a ZX Spectrum 48K+ (we had a ZX81 but never played a game on it, for programming only).
Then got an Atari ST and then an Amiga 500. Had a few years break then got a PC.
Tbh I was never into consoles. Friends had them but I always thought they were meh. I suppose I always liked the other things you could do with computers and the more, er, cerebral games like adventures, rpgs and strategy stuff. I was programming in the mid 80s and would tweak game sprites, really early modding lol.
I've recently got into consoles but that's due to them evolving I think, and less to do with me changing.

34/M
Started in 83 or so with an Atari 2600. Acquired a NES in 86. Picked up a Genesis in 90. Picked up a PS1, then an XBOX, and eventually an XBOX 360 whenever they became available.
I started PC Gaming in '96 or so after a friend showed me a game called
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ByIYt_Wp4I) Dark Colony. I was in the Army at the time, and it was a good pass-time while I recovered from long bouts of binge drinking. Thanks to
Thief and
Deus Ex (among others) I later used binge drinking to recover from long bouts of gaming.
Black Isle's games sucked me in hard, as did Bethesda's.
For the most part these days the
idea of playing games is often better than actually playing them. I don't have as much spare time anyways, so maybe that's for the best.
That said..on those rare rainy-day occasions it's hard to beat some time alone with a great game when the wife and kids are away and I don't have a bazillion things to do.
For better or worse, I can see myself at 70, still excited about whatever innovations gaming has brought our way.
