Yeah, sorry. I decided to drop the tutorials when I switched hosts.
You can play any FM under the streamlined code (New Dark). No real conversion process. Make sure new_mantle is set in your config and the D3D settings are correct. (Not a problem if you installed with TafferPatcher.)
As far as processing an Old Dark FM through Dromed and giving it 32-bit lighting, I don't see a lot of advantage in doing so. Plus, you may screw up some particle FX.

Okay, that settles it then. I have my cam_ext.cfg set up correctly but was just curious about the 32-bit lightmaps.

Hi,
I think this post is useful for those like me who want
new 32bits lighting and soft shadows.
I convert in 32bits every old mission I wanna play.
I'm not a DromEd expert, I know how to deal with "invalid scaling component" errors.
I'd like to learn how to deal with this kind of error message :
"Plane: 0. 1. 0. -43.37"
"ERROR: SplitPortalPolyhedronByPlane: polyhedron didn't cross plane"
"ERROR: portalization failed, WR was cleared"
I've got this error when trying to convert in 32bits the mission "Serge Bank" of Novice Contest.
Can someone help me to resolve this problem ?

If you open the mission in Dromed, select bank.gam for the gamesys, since 2.gam is not present in the zip file.
For some reason, nearly every brush is not snapped to the grid, which is causing the errors. To fix, do the following:
* Go to the Highlight menu and select Hilight Unsnapped.
* Set the grid size to 10 (you'll notice that grid is also turned off...turn it back on by clicking on Use under Grid Size in the lower half of the screen.)
* Under the Highlight menu once again, pick Snap Hilighted, and all of the bright blue brushes will orient themselves correctly to the grid.
*
Do a Tools/Complete Processing and you're done!

Thanks Ricebug \o/
How do you know the grid size must be 10 and not 12 or another value ?
If you don't mind I got another error message that happens sometimes.
with the FM "Inverted Manse" for example :
"ERROR : remove_poly_edge: edge not in poly list."
"ERROR: portalization failed, WR was cleared"

You have to pick a fairly small grid size, based on the smallest brush in the map. Set the grid to 16 and do a grid snap on the same mission and you'll see what happens if you go too large. Dromeders typically rough out a map, using a grid size of 15 or 16. This makes texture alignments easier. Then, when they get into fine detail, they jack the grid down. I typically build door frames at a 12 grid snap. Smaller grid sizes should only be used for detail work.
Imported multi-brushes almost always need a grid snap, especially if rotated wedges are present.

Congratulations, you just mangled every bit of architecture in the mission that was built with deliberately off-grid brushes.

The tutorial link is DEAD, you forgot to renew it.
Ricebug on 15/3/2014 at 13:01
Malau: Thanks for pointing that out. I updated the post. It's one of the unfortunate results of switching website hosts.
ZB: There's nothing in the accompanying readme file that indicates this mission was deliberately built off the grid. Nor does the
(http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99930&highlight=Serge+Bank) original post support your assumption. Apiai simply wanted to know what was causing the error. It was not a deliberate intent to ruin the artist's work.

Considering it was a mission for a novice contest, and that every single brush is not grid snapped, it's probably a good guess that that author didn't instead to build off the grid.
