I've tampered until my wrist hurts and have gotten no where close to what I need.
I want to know how to make DistantArt with alpha. With photoshop and Nvidia DDS plugin, I opened dds file "distcit.dds" in the sky texture family. I want to edit it with my distant buildings and save to new names DDS to keep same format and size. I really don't know what's going on with this file, and how it knows to alpha. I try to emulate but always get a black image with no detail in mission.

Is there a TUT that explains how to make your own distant art? I am afraid the nvidia dds plugin may not be saving the right dds file dromed needs in this case.
Any help is appreciated.

You'll note there is no alpha option for distant art. Are you trying to make the black areas transparent?

That would be nice so I can control where the skyline of my city breaks to become sky. I think I may also need this effect if they are fogged to get a sense of volume.
... Also it would be cool if I knew what location in the sky these numbers meant. What are panels?

R Soul may need to jump in here, but "panels" are the actual pictures or graphic files of the artwork. I believe Thief needs two panels per side, and those are then repeated on all four axis.
I tried using alpha textures (transparent portions) on a perimeter of a mission. The bottom half was a mountain range; the upper half was alpha. I thought the sky would show through the alpha portion. It did not.
Then I tried the same thing using objects. Same thing. The sky would not show through the transparent part. It MIGHT work with skyboxes but I haven't tried it yet.
