EAX came up in a thread in the Editor's Guild, and it got me wondering how many people have it set up. For those who don't know, it's a hardware method of having 3D sound so that different areas have different audio properties (e.g. a cathedral can sound all reverby and echoey, whereas a closet sounds small and dead), which is fully supported by Thief. At the time, I think it was only certain soundcards that could process EAX.
However, as we are now living in the heady future world of 2016, it's possible to just install OpenAL and get all the 3D reverby sounds you want: (

Give it a try - should be supported by the OMs, not sure how many FMs are setup for it.

Also Goldwell made a tutorial about how to enable eax4 in thief 3 and darkmod.it could be found both in here and darkmod forum.

In the past there's been info here on setting up EAX but I'd forgotten about it and wasn't using it on recent Thief installs under Windows 10, so thanks for the reminder and link. You do need to select 'OpenAL' for Hardware Acceleration (mine was set to 'On') which should then automatically set 'EAX Setting:' to 'On'. Was playing the FM Heading Out which claims to have EAX support and can hear a difference right away.
