I had to delete the ;enable subtitles-line entirely from USER.CFG to get rid of them, so that's another way to do it.

No one is computer stupid, computers are. ;)
Just right-click on your Thief 2 shortcut and choose "Open File location" (or something like that, my system is french).
Then scroll down, and you will find user.cfg.
Looks like now, with T2Fix 1.27b, it's not user.cfg but

You might want to check both files for that setting. And .cfg files can be opened in Notepad, in case anyone was wondering.

I had to go the "enable_subtitles 0" in user.cfg route. "enable_subtitles" didn't exist there in the first place, and simply adding it and commenting it out did not work.

What Stefan_Key said is true, it's in the cam_ext.cfg now with a TFix install.
