I'm talking about the bug where you jump on a rope, you launch up in the air and, often, fall to your death. No matter how many times this has (and hasn't) happened, I still cannot figure out what factors could play into it. It just happens under the most bizarre circumstances. Maybe it only happens when you attach the arrow to certain blocks/surfaces in certain levels?
With free saving, this has been a non-issue up until now. I would love to figure this out because I want to do a run through that involves no saves except at the beginning of each level.

T1 or T2?
In T1 rope arrows are a little bug.

Oh! (finger snap! snap!) Who was it that had this problem, like, last year, and it was a really bad case of it? Dang it! I can't remember who that was...
If it's happening a lot, and it happens after waiting for a deployed rope to stop moving first, and if it happens even with ropes already in place, you've got a rare problem. The last person who had it really bad had the problems in T2, as well, which is even more rare. I can't remember what repaired the glitch.
I'll see if I can dig it up. Ah, this is what I was remembering:

So yeah, if your problem goes away from just waiting for the rope to stop moving, then cool, but if it's more pervasive then maybe that thread will clue you in to a solution.

I get the <a href="http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39542&highlight=rope+bounce">rope bounce bug</a> a lot.

Damn.:tsktsk: Any clues? Has it always been that way for you, or when did it start? I've never experienced anything other than being tossed backward a bit, and it's hardly ever happened.

Dunno, it even happens on OMs to me, in TG and T2. Just figured it was a dark engine quirk. It mostly seems to happen when I have a long drop under me, naturally, lol. And mostly when the ropes are in open air, like over a pit. Needless to say, I have learned to save just before trying ropes in those situations.

I normally try to give free space for the rope, that means that the rope should not be very near to a wall. And I try to stay away from any wall, no contact with them, during my jump. I also try to jump not facing straight but looking above.
Not that it´s certain to work. But that´s what I do.

Just wait until the rope has settled befor grabbing it. Depending on the rope's position that can take some seconds. Also, reloading causes ropes to unsettle again.

Quicksave helps.

It won't help you not to get bounced off the rope, but it will kill some time while you wait for the rope to settle.:p
And hello, Luthien. What brings you to post again after nearly a year-and-a-half? Welcome back.
