How to play Fan Missions nowadays?

Hello everyone,
How do you play fan missions nowadays? I use to play back 10-20 years ago. Even made my own mission called Redemption in 2008. I haven't been active over the last 10 years. Someone I know wants to play fan missions and now have Thief 2 installed via Steam. He also have darkloader and can start it up. Back in the days you had to install scripts and patches as well to make it work. Do you still have to do that if you have thied 2 via steam and darkloader? Or is there another way to play fan missions these days?

Do not use darkloader, it is outdated. NewDarkloader, FMSelect and Angelloader are the ones to use now.

I've never played FMs through a steam install, so perhaps there are some oddities there. But with a standard install, it's very straightforward now. Install the game, patch to latest version using TFix (different versions for TG and T2). By default, this will give you the necessary scripts and FMSelect (which is a perfectly serviceable, if barebones, mission loader). There should be no need for fussing with scripts, etc... The main thing is that you need to keep T1/G and T2 FM sip files in separate FM folders. Angelloader solves this issue, and allows you to have a single library for all of the FMs.

Thank you so much. We will look into that further. Still, does anyone know if it is at all possible to play having thief 2 installed via steam? Or is that out of the question. My friend paid 8 bucks to get it that way :D

It is definitely possible. I just don't know if there's an extra step involved. I think it's pretty straightforward, I just don't have experience with it myself.

You have a lot good missions to play, look at the latest contests ones, you'll be impressed.

Time works really strange. I still think of 2008 FMs as really recent ones I still need to "catch up on", even though they're over 12 years old now! :o So to hear it being spoken of as way back in the day is strange, even though it's understandable.
