Hey. Zombies get around.
Slowly.

Now...back to the topic. In fact, the idea of using protection with zombies reminded me :P
NO CORNY ZOMBIE ORIGIN STORY! It's not for Thief! It's not a zombie game. Don't come up with some zombie virus and so on, just stick with the mysterious, "this place is haunted" type thing. It works with Thief.

Here we go!:D
Fresh zombies move fast and appear kinda normal until you get too close. Have zombies of varying levels of decay (instead of two), and assign them different levels of speed and attack. If it was possible (will we ever see the day?), zombies with missing limbs, as was said, coming at the player anyway they could, like the upper half of the original Terminator dragging itself after Sarah Connor.

Actually, what would work with (JUST ZOMBIES), would be something that would be quite interesting in Thief. Gibbing. Games more recently have been doing it, but it'd feel so much more... interactive (shut up about the zombie sex, now!) if you could actually remove certain parts. And possible still have the zombies come after you. Maybe a similar kind of thing to Dead Space and Fallout 3. It'd be awesome as well...a death animation when decapitating the zombie, they kind of stumble forward without the head before collapsing.
Obviously, it'd need to be difficult to actually kill the zombies, and players should constantly be worried in zombie sections about being cornered by them. I don't think it should be easy to decapitate a zombie in it, just something the player could do occasionally. Just..the stealth element needs to remain there! No forced fighting! I don't want Thief to become an action game.
Just..fragmenting zombies would be pretty awesome (I missed exploding zombies when I started playing Thief 3.)

Left 4 Thief.

OH! Speaking of gibbing, it could give us back the exploding zombies! God, it's great to see and hear that, and to have the explosion cause damage to other zombies, stopping them in their tracks while they recoil.

And the sound effects :D I loved the squishy noises.

Those scenes in Terminator were
soooo suspenseful. Don't know if I could handle a persevering half-zombie trailing after me until I worked up enough nerve to try & do away with it for good . At least, not while playing at night. Alone. In the dark.
