How would the storyline develop, if Viktoria was human and a thief ? - by Petike the Taffer

Would she be a member of the Downwinders or work independently ?
Would she have a rivalry with Garrett ?
How would their relationship (professional as well as personal) develop over time ?
Would they ever bump into each other in the first place ?
Just wondering... :p

Connected to the Trickster or not?:sly: If not, then all but the first five or six missions (TDP vs. Gold) would not have occurred.
Quote:
Viktoria
Independent fence, previously Raputo's. Dominates include thiefs-pawnage of exotics, medicinals. No known organization; contact with second-tier
nobility, Grand Library, and Order of the Vine. May have warden aspirations.
Plus Downwinder Donal paid out: "236, Info from Viktoria"
A Cat Woman to Garrett's Batman? The love story free to occur without the weird inter-species stuff?
So, lay down some rules, and we can extrapolate. :p

Unconnected, fully freelance, as neutral to the Pagans as Garrett.

A Cat Woman to Garrett's Batman ?
Well, isn't she already an analogue of her (or any other character who fits the "brazen antiheroine with a heart of gold" archetype) ? And yeah, the whole love-and-hate relationship between the two...

Who said a love story has to occur at all ? :sly: :erg: ;)

I'm an opponent of the Viktoria/Garrett fling idea, and added that only for those who like the idea of them having deep feelings for one another. If she's human, then those people could have their way.
Karras wouldn't have started his Mechanist movement WHEN he did, and the Trickster's siege at the Hammer Temple wouldn't have incited him to move so aggressively, and so genocidal against the pagans, since the siege would not have occurred at all--unless we create a new character to succeed in fulfilling the now-modified Keeper prophecies, or have Constantine approach Garrett in a different manner, getting his attention with another eloquent and attractive woman, or we have to create another character to fulfill Viki's role so Constantine's "fauna" has his wood nymph "flora" counterpart, and to integrate with The City's underground to find the way and the person to extract The Eye from the Cathedral, and gouge out Garrett's eye so cleanly.

"brazen antiheroine with a hart of gold"
Brazen, yes. But ripping out someone's eye and feeding the victim to her minions does not indicate a heart of gold.
Neither does it suggest that she owns a golden statue of a deer, i.e. a "hart" of gold.

She becomes a lot more likeable in TMA. You hardly learn anything about her personality in TDP. And ripping Garrett's eye out was just her job... fulfilling the will of her superior (or spouse, or whatever he was)... Nothing personal... :p :cheeky: By "heart of gold" I meant that she's not necesserarily evil - she's as morally ambigous as Garrett or most characters from the Thiefverse.

Oh, God, I hate typos. :( *runs to fix it*

If Viktoria was just human, then she wouldn't have any of the appeal she does. We all go crazy over her because she's some sort of semi-deity that is very attractive and spends time with Garrett. Aside from that, it's all up to our imaginations, and some imagine they hook up while others think they keep it professional.
If Vikky were human, there'd be another girl in her position, or maybe Constantine would send a male messenger, or go fetch Garrett himself.
She'd be boring. And probably a rival of Garrett that you'd put down.

What-ifs are always fascinating to me.
Assuming she could somehow reach the same positions without her powers, I believe Garret's relationship with her would be limited to very scarce professional contacts about out of the ordinary merchandise but I have the feel neither would be interested in having more meetings.
Then, to maintain some kind of storyline we could introduce a shift of powers in the nobilty, initiating some kind of internal struggle both would be interested in "resolving". This would cut away all the para-normal stuff (I admit I never really gone mad for that).
Then the keepers (which at that point would have to keep the trouble all for themselves in the shadows) could somehow be forced to increse their activities up to the point Garret eventually stubles on them (or they actively contact him to avoid some bigger trouble)... and the continuum would link more or less as in the original way.
Am I a bit approximative? Yes, I am. Unluckly, I don't remember all the details in the original story (yes, I am ashamed :( ). I have recently decided to play Thief1 again... as soon as I'll have a good amount of free time...

Thanks for all your posts, many have been very insightful. I just wanted to stir up a debate about the characters... You know me. :D
