How would you rate THIEF: The Metal Age?...
AntiMatter_16 on 19/10/2009 at 06:52
I voted 8 "Excellent".
Thief 2 boasted quite an improved engine, sprawling and detailed levels, and great gameplay, but the story wasn't quite as good as TDP, and some levels lacked polish, and some were quite tedious.

I would pretty much repeat AntiMatter_16. I voted 8 as the new features to the game introduced the anticipated weather effects and the (cursed, damn) fog, plus they brought a whole new wave of brilliant FMs. But the game itself was not on the level of TMA in my opinion. Still, I love the secrets and hidden objectives features. But they make the ending feel even more unsatisfying. You work your way, sweating and toiling for tens of hours on so many missions, so that Garrett can just say "Tell me more" at the end and "Bam" credits screen.

As I said in the other thread for TDP, this poll numbering system is off, at least in my opinion.
So, I'll have to rate it a 9, even though I'd probably rate it an 8 in reality. (Not based on the one word descriptor, just on the numbering.)

This poll is based on a 1-10 scale denoting quality, and the players experience should be reflective of that number, even if somehow they do not agree with the descriptor. I've always perceived brilliance as a greater form of excellence, but again, the real importance is the number in which thy has chosen...;)

Yes, I thought Metal Age was brilliant!
sNeaksieGarrett on 20/10/2009 at 02:22
Yes, but the problem is that you and I have differing views on what constitutes an 8, and a 9, for example. You can't just simply vote based on an arbitrary number, it has no meaning. That's why you add a descriptor to said number, and in this case, they are slightly skewed, in my opinion.
Of course, I guess I could have just ignored the one word descriptor and voted purely on the number, but like gamespot, it has a descriptor under the number. I know I'm being nitpicky, sorry, but that's just how I see it.

The idea is that with a large enough statistically significant population of ratings, any such variance between individual rating schemes will fall into a standard bell curve and by comparing bell curves, you can compare ratings objectively, rather than subjectively as you debate how individuals rated the game

:D...Congratulations...thou has a keen eye.
Objective reference of the macro impression will prove useful in further discussion...bringing clarity and understanding...;)
