Only one door into the mansion, guarded like crazy. It would be quite easy to stop Garrett, really, if you were prepared to inconvenience yourself enough.
He could still manage to reach your cellar throught a tunnel (Museum style), disguise as mentioned above, throught an air shaft (Angelwatch style, because common, you can´t have a single door as the only entrance of air for an entire mansion), or throught the sewers.
My best bet would be to create a saferoom to guard my gold/scepter that can only be unlocked by pressing two distant buttons at the same time. Since Garrett is a loner he will have trouble with that.

I've been working on a new mission where Garrett is in prison and has to get out. Simply getting out of the cell will make everyone pull their hair out while trying to figure it out. Even though it is not a mansion, Garrett still has to figure out how to get out of the entire facility. The prison is specifically designed to prevent anyone from getting out, and prevents anyone who isn't supposed to be there from getting in at least beyond the front desk.
As far as the guard patrol, I have one guard patrolling to each corner of the servant's hallways (formed in a square) and turns his back toward the corner to look out down two hallways at once.
How would I protect my gold from Garrett if it were a mansion? If you plug all of the holes, then the dam won't leak water. If you cover all of the bases and design your mansion so that no one can get in, then you won't have to worry so much about how many guards are on patrol. We are always thinking about how a manor lord would protect his gold, but the first priority would be to protect the mansion itself. My mansion would be designed so that it would be impossible to approach it at any given location without being seen by guards from at least two locations behind an outer wall.

Why all the security mumbo jumbo when they're never going to work?
Befriend Garrett, pay him a monthly "consultant" fee to stay clear of the premise. And if something is stolen by a thief other than Garrett, have him steal it back, patch the security pothole, then stick the dogs on the perp.

Glue. All over the floor. And anvils that are rigged to fall on your head when you touch anything in the house.

Well, I think teh first move would be the fact that Garrett always trusts slum people for purchasing briefing information; I would pay a spy for giving him wrong information about the situation in the manor, cathedral, or whatever would be.
But in the inside... :ebil: First of all, I'd have a noisy floor all over the place, and I like teh idea of never alone guards. Two should work, equiped with lanterns all the time.
But I would never hide all my keys in one room, even with a guard patrolling. We all have to pee sometime :cheeky: And if Garrett knockouts him, he would have all teh keys, and he'd control teh manor...
Always have information on the guards about the traps in the place... lots of traps (fake tiles, arrows, webs and railings without lock).
I think it would be a great idea for a cool FM, some like some noble guy who wanted Garrett dissected :joke:

If Bafford had only kept his doors locked...

Garrett wakes up in a dirty room with some crazy mechanical thing in his jaw. There´s a viktrola next to him. He plays the viktrola...
"- Hello, Garrett. I want to play a game..."

20 sword guards with helmets in the barracks. If an alert occurs they all go out together and kill anything not wearing my tabards. Oh and they should especially check the shadows.
The "out" button for cameras/sentrys is always in direct line of sight
Cameras don't turn around, if they have to look in two directions, i setup two.
Every guard have to talk every 10 minutes to another specific guard. If a report is more than 30seconds to late --> BIG ALERT
Guard A ---> Guard B --> Guard C- Guard A
if one gets blackjacked the next in line alert everyone.
Alert-buttons scattered around the place.
Four generators. If one don't work al metallic gates close.
Every securitydoor is only openable with 2 persons. On opposite walls, right before the door are two switches. both have to be pulled together.
The vault: 20 buttons are scattered around the whole mansion. they have al pulled at the same time to open the door.
Equipment of every guard:
sword/bow
helmet
body armor
torch
