You said I was 'spouting insanity' that and saying my Christian faith is 'terrifying', an obvious smear job. As for sensible explanations of God, they've been done from every angle and various theological perspectives for centuries.



God is real and evolution is cool-no problems here. I do find your assessment of yourself as an 'evidence-based creature' and ultra rational persona all of the sudden rather amusing.



As I said, I'm not going to bother anymore with this thread-but I'm going to put this one thing to rest:

"No true Scotsmen" is just a way to smear people. The fact of the matter is-if you molest children, murder, torture, rape, steal from the poor, etc you are not following Jesus Christ, you can call yourself whatever you like-but you are not a Christian at all and have no more of the Holy Spirit in you than a dog.

Matthew

MATTHEW 5:17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." Jesus endorses the mass murder, rape, slavery, torture and incest written about in the Old Testament.

MATTHEW 8:12 Jesus warned of eternal torture in hell, "into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

MATTHEW 10:35-36 Following Jesus meant the possibility of turning a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, etc. "…a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household."

Pleasant reading. This is material which is STILL INCLUDED into the world's second most used manual for divine living and this is only the new testament parts. Bear in mind that the OT is orders of magnitude more vile. So yeah, when it comes to following a way of life, I think I'll choose tolerance of others and their views over deciding that anyone whose viewpoint differs from mine deserves eternal torture. And, IndyThief - this very much does put you in No True Scotsman territory I'm afraid. As it does any Christian who does not accept these passages as being true to Christianity (or those of the old testament, truth be told).
