I had my eye on it for awhile, just based on a few youtube vids. Never wanted to fork out for it though until today. for 5 bucks almost anything is worth it. I'll post again when I've had a chance to play it.

There are multiple reviews for it out on the web - most said the game was good, but not great, usually like a 7 or 8 out of 10. I played it for a bit on the PS3 and it seemed interesting, but I got distracted by some other games and never went back to it (this happens often with me). But yeah, for $5, you can't go wrong.

I played it. It's pretty short, and does some annoying things that I don't want to do a detailed breakdown of. Is it worth $5? I'd say yeah, if you're prepared to accept that its idea of survival horror is to level a bunch of restrictions on the protagonist, some of which make sense, and some of which don't.
Combat is irritating every time you face more than three characters, and is probably the worst part of the experience because of some absolutely boneheaded decisions by the designers. It also makes you harvest 'retries' - run out of them and you need to restart a level instead of continuing at a checkpoint. This has never been fun, and continues to not be, even though it's pretty hard to actually run out of them. Contrary to the devs' expectations, it doesn't enhance the tension of the game, but merely adds another irritating thing to chafe about.
In terms of good things - there's a stamina mechanic which limits your ability to climb and run and jump around, and it just about works, though it can be annoying as well. The visuals are atmospheric - if relentlessly grey - and, for me, tied together with the scrounging for items and scaling of buildings into something more or less compelling.
It also evokes Silent Hill 2 so very strongly, I'm incredibly surprised no one's commented on it. There's a strong amount of film grain, strong visibility-limiting fog (dust caused by the cataclysmic 'event'), a city map that's almost useless, and entire sections of streets which are cut off by destroyed buildings, debris, or simply fade away in jagged chunks into a grey abyss. Oh, and Jesh pointed out that the protagonist's daughter is named 'Mary'. How about that for wearing your influences on your sleeve?
It's not particularly brave or new in terms of post-apocalyptic fiction, but it's more or less competent. It doesn't go far enough into the depths of the human condition like, say, The Road or even Fallout (1) to be memorable, but it's an atmospheric (literally, there's a lot of coughing in this game) enough diversion for 5 bucks.

I noticed via steam this holiday season that a lot of you guys eithe have this on your wishlists, bought it recently, or started playing it. Actually noticed one of you playing it today (dunno who).
I have been extremely curious about it and appreciate the thread. Some of these design decisions that seem to exist only to artificially inflate the difficulty seem archaic and un-fun. Those are the types of things that only serve to frustrate me and ultimately make me lose interest entirely.

I really liked it, but it was definitely a case of forgiving some flaws because I was hooked by the tone and atmosphere - as stated, it has problems. There's novelty & great tension for a while in holding onto one single bullet like it's the most precious thing in the world, and using it to hold attackers at bay, figuring out how to beat them without spending it or even bluffing with an empty gun... but then it's let down by a few levels which are just strings of tedious & frustrating combat encounters (one bad one in particular: the boat). There are ups & downs. For me the good outweighs the bad, by quite a long way tbh - I can't call it a 'best game' but it's without a doubt one of my most memorable & absorbing of the last year. Well worth the current price (£4.41 in the UK)

I bought it and yea its good but combat is a bit rough, guess im gonna have to try easy. Stuck at this place with 4 guys and 2 have guns.
They know your gonna have trouble theres a retry right before u fight em so you can just keep trying but still...

I did almost the same, surprise killed first, shot second gunman then I just moved on and didn't bother killing the last two.

Nice screens, looks a lot better on PC (I played it on Xbox a while back). Will give this a try in 3D at some point.
