I have a confession to make... I've been talking about you behind your back.
I've primarily been a lurker around here, but I've been one for years. During all that time, I've directed a number of friends to check the place out. Occasionally I give them an update on what you people are doing.
So I thought it was time for me to express my opinion publicly here:
I have a huge admiration for you guys, and by that I mean specifically the Thief community. The same can be said about my aforementioned friends. We're all at awe of this community.
Thief is old. TDP is closing in on a decade, and we have seen anything new from Thief in a long time. I almost exclude TDS, because I think it has had a very small impact on this community. Relatively speaking. Most of the fuel that has kept this community alive for nearly ten years comes almost primarily from TPD and TMA.
During that time, you have created so much! A total conversion of UT in a great multiplayer Thief, A completely fan made unofficial expansion, and how many FMs? I don't even know the count. Hundreds right? Some of those FMs are better than the OMs. Ion Storm give us a runt of sequel, but here comes TTLG with numerous updates to fix it as best as we can.
Some of my friends used to say that The End from MGS3 was the first “stealth” boss ever, until I showed them the Equilibrium FM. YOU made keeper enforcers before and BETTER than a paid development team did. In terms of pure stealth mechanics, Equilibrium even beats out The End in some ways.
We have Nightblade in the works, and perhaps more notably so, we have the Dark Mod in the works. Yet another total conversion in the name of Thief's legacy.
That's quite the resume, and I'm certain I've missed a lot of major events. I only picked out the big and obvious accomplishments. I've never seen such productivity for any game, but especially one that's so old and so underrated and misunderstood.
Thief is special, so in a way I'm not surprised... but then I would argue that part of what makes it special is that it has a group of very amazing people behind it. Both the Dev team and the fan community.
So in conclusion: You are amazing. Thank you so much for your efforts. Please, never stop; because my admiration of you will never cease. Thief forever.

Wow - I've always thought this was a pretty special community, but it's good to hear it from an objective lurker too. Thanks for the encouragement.
And you're right about Thief. I'm writing TDS walkthroughs right now, and I have no idea why. I just can't let this series go for some reason. :p

In thinking of the time that has gone by, our love for thief. The years that have spanned. One day, years later, an FM will immerge, Garrett will have a cane..........just shoot me if that day ever arises.
/me waves at Jarvis, play any TUT at all dude.
Jarvis on 26/12/2007 at 05:56
I play a little TUT here and there, not a lot though. The community isn't what it used to be, and niether are my skills.
Still, good to see old friends. You keep taking care of yourself BA, and watch out for those cats. ^_- I still have you in mind, in case I ever find myself in Texas with broken art.
...and thanks for the walkthroughs Fett! I'm not a fan of DS myself, but any effort anyone puts into this series is worth its wieght in gold.
