House of Leaves
Seconded. At least as long as you stick to the Navidson Record sections.

The James Joyce novel? Very well, it was a horror to read. Happy?

Cabinet of Curiosities - Preston & Child
The Tomb - F. Paul Wilson (first book in the Repairman Jack series, but works as a standalone)
Speaking in Tongues - Jeffery Deaver
These are all fairly "mainstream" but they get the job done if you want a pee your pants page turner.

I've read quite a few of brit author Ramsey Campbell books. Not so much the in your face kind of fright or gore, but more of giving the reader a sense of unease and pyschological terrors and the way he gets into the characters is to me, in the same way Stephen King gets you familiar with his characters. Anyway, give The House on Nazareth Hill a go to see what his style is like.

Maybe I'm a wuss, but I always thought Dracula was a pretty scary, and really good, book.

haha Lupaster thank you! This was an excellent read that I read several years ago and is part of what I think really gave me an appetite for the horror/suspense genre. I just haven't really got around until now to taking the time to read full books.
Thanks for the suggestions all, this is a great list to get started with this summer.
