Yes. Well...I hope so.:p
Just to make darn sure, I went into Bafford's on Normal difficulty, where opportunities to heal are more abundant, and collected 4 apples, 1 carrot, 4 cheeses, 1 deer leg, and 1 loaf of bread. I injured myself in a long fall in a stairwell, then ate all the food in less than ten seconds. It didn't heal me at all.:thumb:

Mission 4-is that annoying servant woman in the kitchen supposed to get spooked and call for help at any sound shes hears?
I found her to be so twitchy that I had to sneak in through the front door and creep all the way around the far side of the room so that she wouldn't see me. I don't think it was intentional to have her this sensitive though.

food has always healed me just fine in Thief 1. Weird...

Strange. I have a pretty strong memory on this, althrough I haven't played Thief 1 for about 3 years for now. Maybe you need to have very low health (1 to 4 bars max?), before it works. Did you have very low health before eating them?

Some answers

General:* Why is there no chime when I completed one of my objectives?
I hate this too. For a Thief II player like me that was actually a pretty big deal. But i guess they are right - that's how Thief I was made.
* Why doesn't eating food heal me at all? Expert = food no heal?
I'm not 100% sure, but i think bunch of apples did heal me a little bit (playing on expert, ofcourse).
* I'm having great trouble mantling, what's the trick?
Hold space as long as it takes! (well, if i understood your question correctly)
Mission 2-I lured a zombie to fight a hammerite. Is Thief the first FPS where NPCs have non-scripted combat vs each other and player? (all 3 of us are each others enemies)
I agree with others - probably not. Cool idea for luring though.
-If all the zombies and guards are killed, wer do the released prisoners run off to?
I think they kinda went mad, but tried not to release them :>
Mission 3 bonehard-hiding that $20 vase behind those boulders in the trap room (u walk in, 3 small borders fall behind u blocking the door) was really uncalled for. i play on expert, not 'archeologist" :(
Oh, but checking every corner for loot is fun :) Part of the game really.
What is your general gameplay strategy?
Similiar to yours. Save after nearly every knockout, make a big save every 10 minutes give or take. And try not to kill anyone but some sick zombies. Just.... neutralise :>

I could experiment, but only the Maw's healing fruit, a.k.a., plumsies, have ever healed me in TDP/Gold. Back in 2001, I had first played TMA, then eventually got TDP, and was surprised food wouldn't heal me. That was on a friend's computer with his copies of the games. In 2006, I finally got my own computer that could play Thief, and my own copies. The healing food of TMA is the same, the non-healing food of TDP/Gold is the same--except for the plumsies. They work fine.

Some of these "limitations" can be fixed by a dromeder. For example, (and I should probably write a tutorial for this, as it should not be very hard at all) the food in thief 1 does not heal but it should be fairly easy to implement healing, you just have to know how to use dromed.:) The only problem here is, you'd need to create a custom gamesys for each OM with the healing properties. Otherwise, I guess you'd have to modify dark.gam ?
I had inquired about food healing in thief 1 before, just can't recall where exactly. I'm sure it was in the editor's guild possibly regarding LBM CE or gvsbad.

Is there a mod, that will allow you to lock a door by reusing a key on it?
Huh? I thought thief gold already has this? Just reuse the correct key on the correct door and it should relock itself. OR is that not what you meant?

gps mod- show arrow of player's location/which way
player's facing in map menu
That first one is basically the automap; But I guess you're looking for a more precise location. I don't know if that is possible or not.
Player's facing in map menu: This sounds impossible, but don't take my word on that. These questions are better asked in the editor's guild, not the thief series gen discussion.

Hmmm. I thought you only got a chime with bonus objectives. In TMA it's optional to have the goal notification sound on or off, but TMA was made with a different editor, with more things added, and some things taken away. Just remember that TDP is older and has many differences.
Not sure. I guess the developers just didn't implement a sound, or at the time it was not possible. However, I have implented a chime sound in my FM for a secret... I don't think i've done it for objectives, but I'm sure it'd be easy. (That was the other thing lacking in thief tdp/gold, no secrets/chime sounds.)
Seriously, if you want anwers ask a veteran thief tdp/gold player such as myself. :) :p No offense to jtr7 or others.....
But good for you KoHaN, you are joining us Thief Gold players! hehe :cheeky: It's too bad it took you until now to play it! :o

So far it sounds like
nobody knows what they are talking about, even though they do.:laff:
I keep hoping some veteran player with very recent, very fresh experience could verify what could be causing the discrepancy about, uh, health food.:p
I played Bafford's on Expert, gave Garrett 40 apples, drowned him in the sewers until he had one health shield left, climbed him out of the water, ate the apples at an initial slow rate and kept increasing the speed until his supply ran out. No health acquired. I then picked up the one plumsie I left on a basement crate for him and acquire two health shields for a total of three. Can I get some actual confirmation?
:cheeky:
I made a video, but you can't really see the 40-apple countdown. :erg: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNQ1NohyjK8)
sNeaksieGarrett on 27/10/2008 at 01:12
Dude, you just proved that I was right.
edit: Just to further prove my point, and to ease people's minds about the food (dromed proof! hehe :sly:) ::::

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/1668/nohealingbd4.th.pngTherefore, it is impossible for a food item in thief gold to have healing properties. No amount of eating will make it magically work. (Notice the lack of an Act/React Source property? This is why the food has no healing properties in thief gold.)
I just forgot how easy this is, one forgets dromed stuff if one stops using it for a time. :eww:

Yep. You and I agree, SG.:thumb:
My gameplay strategy depends on how much time I've got to play. Most of the time, I'm not properly playing, but experimenting or researching. When I do settle down to play, I like to be sneaky, but I don't like to Ghost all the time. The sneakier you try to play, the more skilled and masterful you become at true thievery. I do like exercising my archery and blackjack skills, though. The more impatient and rushed I am, the more AI I take out. Sometimes I get carried away then reload an earlier save and play properly. I find I most enjoy playing through a mission when I treat each encounter separately, and use the knowledge I have about the maps' layout to make it interesting for myself, increasing the challenge or decreasing the challenge according to time and mood. I can't speak for anybody else, but for myself, I go with the flow as I sense it.
