Possible dark.gam tweak?????
decrease the loot required, by say, 30%
i <3 EXPERT difficulty, but remove/decrease the loot ammount. I get immersed and beat an entire level, just to go back and run around wildly, bunnyhopping avoiding enemies to find a $20 gold vase :( Runs the immersion for me.

Explore more. Less concentration on beating enemies, unless you mean slipping by them. Explore the spaces, high and low. Crouch and climb. The enemies are obstacles on the true path. Immerse yourself in being a Thief--a Master Thief.:thumb:
Sorry, that's not what you want to hear.:p

KoHaN69, Thief and the other games in the series can be very difficult for those not used to playing stealth games. The key word here is 'stealth'. You need to be sneaking around in shadows quietly. After all, that's what Thief is all about.

Is Thief the first FPS where NPCs have non-scripted combat vs each other and player? (all 3 of us are each others enemies)
Some games that had this before Thief:
Half-Life 1
Unreal 1
Doom games (you could lure enemies to fight each other)
Quake 1 & 2 (same as in Doom)

I got 1/2 through Thief 2 a decade ago, and I beat Thief 3 when it was released. I made acustome difficulty got THief 3, with AI being ultrarealistic, but I decreased the loot ammount.
Extra Loot does not drive the story nor gameplay at all, it's just an extra objective that anchorages exploration.
I do not need to be encouraged.

I think Kohan frustation is not exactly that he must use stealth, but the fact that, unless you are a veteran with a big memory, the mission just becomes a giant "Where´s Wally ?" game after completing the main missions and you must search for a small coin hidden behind an obscure vase at the other end of the map.
It´s integral part of the gameplay but it can be frustating sometimes, and in extreme cases it can be compared to adventure game´s pixel hunting.

Indeed, I agree with Kohan. Too much loot requirement can start to frustrate me at the end of a mission and I usually get so sick of it that I end up consulting a walkthrough to find it. The chime thing annoyed me too, they should have put some sort of notification in there even if it's a bit of text that appears on top of the screen like in T2.
The best scripted faction stuff was in TDS IMO, I just loved leading my pursuers to their enemies and standing back and laugh while they killed each other like when the statues and the keeper enforcers are roaming the streets.

This is a thief game we are talking about here... A person is supposed to find lots of loot. Also, the fact that you are playing expert kohan shows that the loot amount will be raised. I can however understand your issue, but it seems wrong to go in and modify the levels to have less loot.:erg: If you really must, that is a question suited for the editor's guild and not thief gen.

Okay, KoHaN69. Now that I know you don't care for the story of Garrett or the RPG element that you are in the shoes of a guy who just wants to be a thief--the best--I'll not encourage you along those lines. I have to disagree that it's not a gameplay element. Robbing the place of as many valuables as possible is a reasonable goal for a game called Thief. But, you are not alone. I had no idea you weren't new to the games, from the way you were describing them, I apologize. :o Moving on....
Somebody else will have to tell you the best way to cut the loot requirement for each individual mission. Hopefully a single variable is all that's needed. I take it, then, that you don't need the money for the gear (Yay!), or are using the money cheat already?
All right. I'm outta here.:)
KoHaN69 on 28/10/2008 at 05:28
I hardly ever need the gear I'm issued.
I rarely use moss or noisemaking arrows.
I never use potions, and rarely holy water.
The only thing I buy are a few rope and a bunch of water arrows. Since running out of water arrows is worse than not having a black jack.
I wouldn't call myself new to the series, I just never completed the first one.
I have no use for 2000 loot. I collected like 1965 already.
I'll never spend 2000 gold in the mission briefing anyway.
I was completely immersed into the game, scared by the atmoshere, the eye latisman itself was talking to me, I broken into the Keeper's hidden passage by the grove, solved a physics puzzle, got a key and map of the talimans.
I was excited to see what'll happen next!
CRAP! ...I need liek 40 more gold.
(I hope?) I'm getting 100,000 gold for this mission! who cares about 40 gold??!?!
PS: I found it after skipping through the entire deserted city twice. It was a gem in the fallen tower that I already picked up with a golden goblet. I guess i clicked twice but it did not get highlighted -_-
OK, so the next mission, find earth talsiman:
normal loot: 400 hard: 800 expert: 1800
WTF?!
