Okay, just the fact that the game is 3rd person makes this dream bad.:erg:
I mean, thief 3 at least let you switch between the two.

Almost. I had to keep reminding my game to keep the camera in Garrett's head.:tsktsk:
:cheeky:
And this is no bueno, too:

Also, when you "successfully hid in shadows" and the enemies were searching for you,
the game would automatically fast-forward to when they had forgotten about you, so there was
no need to be patient or nervous!

Sounds like some bad Friday nights I've had after a little too much of the Captain to drink.

lol... you just saying that makes me think of that goofy commercial "...have a little Captian..." *music tune* (forget the words, sorry I'm not doing it justice) "Do you have a little Captian in you?" or something like that.:laff:

I didn't find 3rd person all that bad but just having that and no 1st person is bad. I don't like the no light gem idea, it would make the game too frustrating make people take stupid risks.

I wouldn't mind no lightgem, but only as a difficulty setting or something, cause it will definetely make things harder. Also, you'd absolutely have to have body awareness (so you can see your own body in 1st person), so you can check yourself whether or not your toe is sticking out too much.

actually i had a dream about thief 4 too recently.. can't remember very well but was about some concept art in a games magazine, looked decent.. :erg:

I don't think the missing lightgem would be such a bad thing - there are situations one would be visible although in total darkness - take for example a totally dark hallway, to which a light room is connected - someone standing in the hallway would be visible against the light background as a black silhouette.

I read somewhere that the developers thought about the possibility of making Garrett's silhouette visible to AI if he was standing in darkness, but in front of a bright backdrop. Although it apparently wouldn't have been too difficult technically, they decided against it for gameplay reasons. Their sentiment was that players would feel the game cheated on them.
I guess the no-lightgem idea would be possible, if awkward, in third person, but in first person there'd have to be a HUD icon in one form or another.
