Oh man I LOVE the undead. That they're a bit freaky... is what makes them great, plus the
excellent sounds they make - UNNNGGGGGHHHH UUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHH! ...
Read that out of context and I swear you will never fear zombies again.

Haha I think it would work better if you took the first sentance out, otherwise it's still in context, like so -
"That they're a bit freaky... is what makes them great, plus the excellent sounds they make - UNNNGGGGGHHHH UUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Unfortunately for the OP, Thief doesn't get any less scary after Return to the Cathedral. On the contrary... :sly:

I find the scariest ones to be the Haunts. The apemen and bugbeasts are weird but not something that would scare me if I bumped to them by surprise

A Thief without Zombies is not a Thief. Zombies are great, especially in T3. I like scary things (but I can't watch horror films) and in Thief they are in moderation.

I think the zombies take away the feeling with Theif. I like sneaking around in castles, stealing goods. I can't see why they had to add zombies.
I wonder what the 'ctrl-alt-shift-end'-thing does...

Level skip. Goes right to 'Mission complete'.

Hmm. I say zombies arn't scary unless you a) wake them up or b) let them see you....so...choose c and you will be fine!;)

I definatly thought that way for a while, then I realized that sneaking around live guards gives you the option to just kill them all and not sneak...and the zombies force you to sneak. Thats when I truly fell in love with Thief:)

To no one in particular, but just to have it said:
These discussions always discount, ignore, or even end up with at least one person making fun of true phobics. Which isn't any help to them at all. And assuming phobics don't know that there are ways to overcome, or compensate, doesn't lead to giving helpful advice, either.
Back to the current question:
Why were zombies included? For the same reason all the monstrosities and horror elements were included: to make you uncomfortable, create tension and suspense, and hopefully scare you. Not to mention, the original game was made with several experimental ideas, not knowing what people would like or not.
