I think you'd have to be a psychiatrist to know how to handle someone with phobias correctly. I sure don't..
But Thief is supposed to be frightening at times, it's always been a dark game in that way.

If someone has real phobias then I think they shouldn´t even play suspenseful scary games.
Thief is made to be scary. Sometimes it can be hard to overcome it when they do their best (The Cradle :eww: ) but the experience is great.

I first played Thief Gold half a year ago. I really hated the Bonehoard map because of the difficulty of resurrecting zombies. When I came to The Haunted Cathedral map I just stopped playing.
Now I started playing again, and stopped.
I really hate the zombies. .
Man up...

Phobics play Thief because it's a great game which happens to have zombies. How many taffers got hooked on the game while playing Bafford's, or the demo, only to find out the hard way, while playing later levels, that they are having a terrifying, irrational experience that is NOT fun, mixed in with an otherwise very cool gaming experience?
There are a hundred complaints about the games, yet many of us still play, or think fondly of them overall. Why do you think TMA has greatly reduced numbers of zombies? People complained, for one thing (unless the stories have been inaccurate).
Necromantic elements are woven into the main plot and are part of The City, so they have to be there having been well-established in Act 1.
Phobia isn't a choice, but doing something about it is. Facing that which you fear the most is not something anybody should give a person grief over. And no, you don't have to be a psychiatrist to know you shouldn't make fun of people or condescend to them without gaining an understanding.
There are those who think the same about the spiders in the games. There are those who will stick with FMs so they can get their Thiefy fix, assured they won't be bothered by monsters of any kind (except maybe the evil human types).

Finish The Inverted Manse on expert and you won't be afraid of Zombies anymore.

I think zombies were put in the game to have an unkillable enemy that can scare the player as well.

Oh snap! Better run, jtr!
As for phobics, I understand completely, as I'm agoraphobic. When I was in school, I couldn't go to any assemblies or anything, much to my delight, due to that little condition... Hmmm, perhaps that is an underlying cause of my being anti-social... But I digress.
If zombies really freak you out, you could try going into the .crf's and changing their sounds to something funny. Not sure if that would work or not, but if it does, then all the better, hmm? :thumb:
